Title: Gluing bowstaves together

Is It possible to glue 2 bowstaves together sideways to het a wider stave?

I'm considering that at the moment. I'm thinkin' that as long as the glue joint runs from one end to the other and from belly to back it should be OK but I've never done it. I'm thinking about gluing two pieces together side by side and then backing it with boo. Probably only good on a backed bow. That's a lot of conditions

It Will be backed with sinew but  when done really good glue surface the glue Line should be stronger then the Wood right? So would It be really needed to back? Im planning to make a westcoast paddle bow from yew heart Wood so It should have backing annyways but then you should back It before tillering wich wont help the sinew to pull It in reflex

Also, if It would succeed, and you would like to flip the tips a little bit, then It should be fine before gluing, and then the 2 parts tied together?

It could work but there's a lot could go wrong just getting everything lined up and bent just so.

You could glue two pieces of straight grained yew together, then treat it as one piece. The grain would need to be straight. I would back it either with a full width backing, or sinew  to make sure it will be absolutely safe in tension.

Think im going to try to back It with some old jeans fabric to get It bending evenly till brace or so and then change It for sinew

I’m guessing you’re gonna try a lap splice? Or is the glue line just straight down the center?

I wonder if your sinew drying might pull your glue line apart

Maybe

Made bows out of dead small dia bamboo shoots and tied and bonded them together at several point. Great survival bow.

You will have to be sure both halves are equal in tension, compression and resistance or I'd imagine the limbs would twist as the bow is drawn. You may have to tiller both halves separately.  Maybe sister slats would be your best bet.

Guess i make a narrower paddle bow then haha and at pat b, wouldnt It be smarter to not have split Them? Haha
