This Bamboo Backed ELB was made out of an old piece of Osage we hauled out of Pappy's hay barn where it sat for 14-16yrs. Was a large twisted log complete with plenty wood borers. After splitting and belly splitting some more I recovered a piece with only a few borer tunnels. Wood was very light and snappy. Just a really efficient shooting ELB and fantastic shooting one. With a handful of arrows it groups well to 60yds. Elk hide grip and a beaver tail strike plate.
Had it out and shooting at 50yds with a tillering string without nocks sets and it was fun shooting off back of hand with 600grn arrows.

Nice flat unstrung pic, looks great. Elb horn tips always add the look of some extra craftmanship imho, very nice.

Very nice bow, Shawn and great save from a twisty, wormy stave.
The first time I came to Twin Oaks, Greg brought me down to the hay barn and I was blown away by all the osage and hickory ricked up there. I guess most of that has been used up by now.

Well done Shawn! The Osage self I did looked ok but shot like a dog. You did low set and nice bend. Arvin

Very nice HH . Those profiles say it all. Beautiful. As for the shooting. I'm pretty sure you can make anything shoot good sir, but I'm guessing that one is better than most.

Yes Pat, The Wood Boogers used it up to be sure. Most is gone through last year and either used or in fire to anneal knife steel.
Yes BJ , this one shoots well. I saw Pappy shoot it at fifty yards and lay em right on target with 600grn arrows.

That’s a beautiful bow! Love the bend on that long draw. Great job!

Nice. Not an ELB but an ALB

Nice looking bow, Hedge.

nice one ,, congrats,,,it does not take much osage to make a bow,, :)

Very smooth bend in each limb...Nice work

Great bow!
I like how you made the stringing grooves, because they don't look like stringing grooves. Also the transition from the boo node to the horn looks cool. But I don't like the transition of the other nock.
Looks somehow unfinished,....just my 2 cents.

Cool bow.
As Marc says not exactly what we would call an elb here in England but who cares. If you make another try to make the tiller more elliptical. You will get a wisper quiet, completely shock free do if you get the mid to outer limbs bending more, you also avoid the mid limb set.

The hard part of a bow like this what you don't see. Most guys I think take a osage board that was already squared to start with. This was half of a 16yr old log that was started like you were making a self bow. No squaring o table saw or joiner. The grain on the upper limb twisted about 50 degrees then back. If it was not backed it would be poking the fire in Pappy's pit really. The bow is as quiet in my hand as any flipped tip selfbow I've shot. The really amazing thing is how accurate it is. Not just in my hand but even guys who don't shoot off the hand. Its as light as a mulberry bow. Must be some majik from that old hay barn it came out of?

Had this bow out today. Still love the way it shoots.

I've been building bows for awhile now and it's just hard to beat a BBO for day in and day out rain or shine hot or cold shooting... just my personal opinion. Your bow looks like a shooter. :OK
