I havent posted a self bow in a couple seasons so a little rusty just been making lam bows so all coments welcome ,this one is still with in a couple pounds of intended draw weight its 65" ntn 47lb @31 looking for 45lb for late season hunting it does stack some to be exspected at that length and my draw it holds 2" of reflex after unstringing & 2 1/4" after rest it has great early draw weight !

Nice looking bend. I think if I was just looking for 3 less lbs. I'd probably just start sanding it and shooting it in. Tillering looks pretty good to me. Maybe, just maybe top limb outer third of working limb. Wouldn't over do it though. It's really close.

Thanks BJ good eye, I left the outers a little stiff for side tillering mass down to the leaver fades when I carve them in Thanks appreciate it !
-
Nice bend.
-
31” of bend out of a 65” bow is great. Looks really good. Good luck with your late season hunt
-
That turned out great..,I agree ,,.sand and shoot in,..enjoy :)
-
Thanks guys need to make a string & carve in the handle will post when done !
-
Nice! I'll be checking back in on the final work for sure...

Cool stick Stick! Look forward to seeing more when it's done........ (-P

Looks nice !have a front profile, you know I like my lever bows!
-
The leavers are still full width and thickness currently, I will post a full profile when done I keeped this one a bit wider and longer in the lowers then my usaul to minimize set in the lowers at my long draw it worked out on this one , this stave needed a lot of lateral correction and still is a bit off to the arrow side so I may leave it there and get this one center shot on the arrow side , I'm going to Effiletower the leavers as soon as I decide on string center I just ran out of shop time with work ! I only have pics current of the rear view just for view of where Im at currently !
-
I got a little more time to work this bow here is a better view of the front view , started narrowing & thining the leavers as Im shooting in got this one center shot its by far my most accurate self bow to date , cleaned up the tiller a bit more Im currently at 20.78 Oz Im thinking I can scoot in under 20 Oz ,this one is a rocket , I love the way these leaver bows shoot !
-
Nice work Stick! Keep it coming man...Looks very balanced at this point...The upper looks a tad strong but I think it may be camera angle?
Don
-
Thanks Burch ,I really hate tillering by pics because looks that way on one pic then you reverse the bow and take a pic it looks the same , But sense its shooting strait not much set & shoots shock free & dead accurate and holding 2" of reflex ,Im calling the tiller done ! I should have this one done next couple of week ends !
-
really nice bow,,congrats
-
Thanks Brad !
-
looks good. well done.

Can't wait to see you finish her up...I will be checking in...I have some interest in this design and have never built one...Shock free and accurate tells me you are on point...

Thanks guys , Don these leaver bows make great hunting bows ,I maid a 68" one a couple seasons back ,its my favorite natural bow ,I learned threw bow evolution to keep my lowers longer & wider for my 30 1/2 draw , I exspected with this short one with only 20 1/4 working limb to take more set then It did but was amazed it didnt take much , the design is a solid one , If you pay attention to string angle & mass these bows are screamers , this one is pretty much a copy of one of BowEds designs with modifications , if you go back and look threw some old threads of his you will get a lot of idea's for building them !
-
Looks good to me! Congratulations and good luck on the hunt!

Very nice!

Thanks Bush means a lot to me coming from a leaver bow guy like your self ,I'm still skinning down my leavers ,rounding over , Bush do you know of any leaver bow build alongs Don Burchett is looking for one , wants to build one ?
-
Thxs man, there are some mollegebet build alongs on line.iwould day the only tricky part is getting the upper fade transition right ,same as the lower fade it has to be well supported or it will crack.id be happy to give some advice as in sure others would.bush
-
Thx Stick, Thx Bush, I have one here that Rich made me that I can study...The transition is the part I will have to watch...May PM you guys in the future if ok, thanks...
Don
-
Any time you want Don I will be glad to help with my limited knowledge I have ,I will look around and see if I can find some threads or vids, like Bush said maybe utube !
-
I hope you will make some more pics of the finished bows, and post it here.
Like it a lot. When I get mine from simk I will try to make one as well. This bow and the one from bush are very inspireing!!
-
Yep I will post when done , I have its 57" osage/sinew little brother in the works ,I will try to post more of the process on that one , but like I said Im just copying BowEd's work ! My bows are just plain hunting bow's nothing fancy really jusy for utility !
-
Looks it's gonna be sweet shooter!
-
I never maid it as a late season hunt or much work on this one, do to work but got a chance to do a bit more today & shoot about 80 arrows I got the tips almost to thin as the started to flex as in the first FD pic 1 & a trip to the caul & heat solved the problem FD pic 2 , sure like the way this one shoots so far mass is 20.21 Oz hoping to get closer to 19 Oz still a lot of sanding and clean up
Yet !
-
Flexing tips !
-
that turned out great,,, congrats on that one,, (-S
-
Still got a ways to go Brad but Im close to my shoot in ,so gravy work from here , Im going to try to make all my future self bows center shot makes a huge difference !
-
Nice work stick...That unstrung profile tells it all...Looks very balanced

Pretty! I'm really interested in making a lever/mollegebet bow some day. The are really pleasing to the eye, and I hear they are really pleasing to the hand (and not at all pleasing to the deer).
Great work!

I enjoy making them I just call them leaver bows because I dont like getting traped in certain dimensions or tiller style , every time I make one of these I learn new things they are fun to make & shoot !
-
Stick that is a great tiller job on that length of bow and that draw length! Arvin
-
Looking real nice. What are dimensions? Handle, fades, limb width?

Leaver is a good name. :) Does this style work well for softer woods? Can it be backed? I ask because I'm very limited on bow woods around here. I'll probably start with a board bow or three, but I really want to make one from native woods. That means juniper, chokecherry, serviceberry, or mountain ash if I'm lucky enough to find a straight piece.
-
Sure I think you could make one out of any bow wood, I don't know why not, I have only made them out of hickory & osage I'm currently working on a sinew /osage one !
-
Cutty just saw your question this one is 4" handle 1 1/2 fades 8" leavers 65 ntn if I remember right because of my long draw I keep the limb parallel 12" out at a little under 1 1/2" then tapper to Aprox 1" leaver fade & Eiffel Tower some what on the leavers those are starting dimetions & I side tillered & thinned as I tillered really just played it by ear dimensionally ,I keep my parallel portion longer then most to compensate for my long draw !
-
That looks really sweet!
-
Thanks Fellas for all the kind words really this bow is just a composite of what I learned around here from so many , I remember when I first came around here I spoted a guy named Beadman and his bows , I was amazed at the reflex and performance he was getting out of them & many bows later Im starting to figure out how to make one after many failures ! But still have many bows to go yet to learn more ! Thanks !
