Hi,
this is a 62lb draw @29inches, 73inches = 185cm nock to nock, ash board bow.
1-1/2inches = 4cm wide at handle.
4inch = 10cm long handle area.
Tapering of the limbs start at the remaining 17 inches(43cm). The limbs taper down to 3/8 inches wide.(10mm)
Bow was heat treated and reflexed to 2''.
I tillered this bow only using a mirror, pretty happy about the end result!
It was quick to make and very simple. A bow capable of taking down a deer, made in a matter or hours!(except for the waiting of moisturizing after heat treatment)
This is going to be my new target practise bow for this summer.

Love the first picture! that's what I think a bow should look like. I like RD's and all but that's just basic and beautiful.
-
I wouldnt call that simple! I call that beautiful! what number bow are you on?
-
What kind of finish does it have on it ?
-
Beautiful bow! I like the tiller and the fact that you chose a straight grained board. Jawge
-
Nice bend for sure.
-
@DC - Thank you! I really like basic bows, the simple looks do really fascinate me. Don't get me wrong, I really like the fancy bows too!
@Deerhunter21 - Thanks a lot! This is my 9th bow if I remember correct. I made a 120lb wych bow prior to this one. Turned out pretty good, small hinge and little compression damage on lower limb tho.. I have been making a lot more single wood bows lately.
@mikebarg - Rustin's Plastic Coating. I went with this choice because ash likes to suck up moisture real bad.
@Tsoukalas - Thank you! I have heard that choosing the right board will save you a lot of tears!
@SLIMBOB - Thanks! I tried to mimic the ''perfect'' tiller for longbows from the bowyers bible vol 1.
-
Love it. The simplicity is awesome.
Are the growth ring perpendicular to the back, rather than following a single ring? Is that what you'd call 'quarter sawn"?
-
Thank you!
Yes, this piece was taken from a quarter sawn board. The rings go pretty much straight up, maybe at 15degree angle.
-
Great looking bow! At 62# that bow will take down anything on this continent. I’d hunt with! Nice work.

Very nicely done, that's a great example of what a simple board bow can be, well crafted and tillered.
-
@tattoo dave - I hope I can get my aim up to the level needed. Propably going to go to hunt with this bow when the season starts. My lands are infested with deer and moose, they are causing a lot of damage to my newly planted forest...
Thank you for the kind words!
@gifford - Thanks a lot! Yeah indeed, was also cheap to make! I think new aspiring bowyers, like me, should begin with bows like this to learn the basic tillering process.
Plus, I think this is a good example of how to make bow for low price and with no power tools at all.
-
Mikkolaht,
You should have no trouble dropping a deer or even a moose with that bow! Assuming you can get close enough, however a moose is liable to take offense at being shot! Very nice bow! Practice a lot!

@Hawkdancer - I'm under the impression, that 60lbs is the magic number for taking down big game. (SH)
Moose being agressive? That means I have to carry with me my axe too!
Thank you for your kind words! I will practise a lot!
-
I bet that bow draws super smooth, and the 62# feels like 45#. Helped my bro' make a similar weapon, and the smoothness of draw, 60# in a similar length, really impressed me.
If you harvest this year with the bow, post the pics.
-
@StickMark - It really is a pleasure to draw. That is a good point, it doesn't feel like a 60lb bow to draw at all! The hand shock is non existing too.
I will post! :)

"Moose being agressive? That means I have to carry with me my axe too!" Viking ancestry? :OK
-
@Pat B - Maybe maybe, I might have some viking blood running in my veins. After all I am from the western coast of Finland. :)
The Finns have a complicated history with vikings. We were kinda their allies while some sources say the Finns fought against the vikings :D
After all, we are a mixture of the west and the east. :OK

You might want to have a second arrow at the ready, but that first arrow in the vital area is important! There have been a number of moose encounters here in Colorado this year already, but most involved cows with calves and/or people with dogs. Elk, we get wandering around various parts of town even down low as there is a large herd in our River drainage. Moose tend to be in the higher elevations here.

@Hawkdancer - I bet that moose getting agressive has something to do with getting used to people. Normally they would run away after being hit, I guess.
-
Very impressive. Beautiful bend. 8)

I agree on both points. I found that making quite a few bows out of boards first really helped me when I first attempted a stave. Plus, they can turn out to be really nice bows as well. One of my favorite bows to shoot to this day was made from big box store lumber.
Very nice work, you should be proud. I'm looking forward to seeing what you make next.
-
my kind of bow! i love the simple and clean style of bow.
-
@airkah - Yeah, board bows can be good bows too!
And thank you a lot! I will be updating more of my future projects here too!
@dylanholderman - Thanks a lot! :)
-
Really nice looking bend...Good luck hunting also
Don

@burchett.donald - Thanks a lot man! :)
-
Very nice bend! Congrats!
I made some ash bows, no boards but I agree a beginner shouldn't start with A++ bow wood.
Right now I am a bit bored from ash and try to color up my bow rack.
Congrats

@backtowood b2w - Thank you! :) Yeah, it will save lots of money.
Wych Elm, or elms overall, are good bow woods, and it is super common. Try those!
-
Great looking tiller on that bow. Excellent grain on that piece from what i can see. Nice example of what you can do with a good board. Mike

Very nice looking bow

@M2A - Thanks a lot! :)
@selfbow joe - Thanks! :)
