Aloha
Yesterday I went for a friends good table saw to cut some ash backings. Returning home I couldn't resist glueing one of them on a piece of wood. There was a very straight, thin ringed and clean piece of larch lying around since some time in my shop; it was waiting already long time to become a bow.
Today I cut the profile and roughed it out with lot's of electric power, tillered a bit and got a bow. 61" - 32# @ 25". Learned 3 things:
1. Working out a bow from a clean piece of backed wood is extremly easy and relaxed. Mass production is possible...building time 3 hrs
2. My new backings work
3. Larch is no bow wood - it chrysaled after first brace - that's why only 32# result in the end. Maybe I'l glue up a yew belly...
Cheers

hello again - this one ended up 62ntn, 42#@28 - no glued in reflex. larch is good bow wood if you face and back it ;D glad everything worked out with my first "laminated" bow, with the home made backing strips and the cheap white wood glue used. next challenge would be tapering the lams which gets me little headache when thinking about - whats the easiest way to get a nicley tapered power lam eg? cheers

I have tried 2 of these bows with a hard backer. Both broke. One violently! Good job sir.

thank you bassman, I also like yours (-S
yeah del, larch does well as middle lam ;D
oh yes it does ohma2 - had some good shootin today
Thank you Slim, I'm astonished how well things behave despite little mistakes. Doing higher Draw weights maybe also requires better execution...still learning. Have a d/r glued up, pulling 55# on the pic, didn't take set to this point. Would like to straighten out that reflex more now and then works the inners - wouldn't wonder if all blews up soon (--)
