Here is my first osage bow. It's a little bendy handle. Its 55"ttt about 55lbs at 25". Its a down and dirty bow. Not the smoothest and not the best tillered but it shoots pretty hard. It also has on it my first made sinew bow string. I'm hoping to kill a deer with it this year!
Let me know what you think

Thought I would share these also. Raising up the next generation right!
-
Excellent sir.....in all respects. Can set you up with some stone if ya like.

Hey I would love that! I have been wanting to get into some kidnapping.
-
Very nice bend on your first osage bow. Well done on it and the sinew string. Good for you for passing it on. 8) :OK
-
I kept the bottom limb a little stiffer on purpose. Do you think it is too stiff?
-
I think the tiller looks good.
-
I like the tiller and the pictures of the kids too. Atlatl is nice to. Good Luck hunting and keep that string dry

Looks great!
You must have made another bow or 2 that weren't osage cause that is really nice.
Thanks
-
Congratulations! Looks good. Seems like a shorter, lighter bow will be in order soon, too. And maybe a shorter dart (AT).

Jake,
Beautiful pure simplicity...That looks like a little workhorse man...I have a real soft spot for a bendy...I wish you a wonderful hunting season...

Nice job on that little bow! I really love the bare bones simplicity and utility of that type bow. I reckon that type of bow has been made since the beginning and will be made as long as there are people making wood bows.

Looks great! Keep up he good work. Jawge

Bend looks good. Congratulations.
-
Not that you need to hear it again, but yup, that bend looks very nice. (-S
Love the pics w/ the kids :)

Came out great!
What are the string materials, and why different?
-
Nice bow! Such an efficient design. Good luck this fall. Mike
-
Cool bow to go hunting with! But for this I would make her darker.

The string is sinew. I just wanted to try a natural material string. I might switch it out with a dacron for hunting. And how would you darken it? If I would keep the natural feel I would want to use a natural type stain
-
It will darken by itself, especially if exposed to sunlight. I've heard many say they hunt with bright new yellow wood and have no problems. I tend to agree with them. White seems a bit more of a problem to me. Movement is the huge problem. It's also one of the reasons this type of hunting is so challenging. Getting close enough is probably the easy part. Getting a good shot off undetected can be very challenging and rewarding.

Jake,
Bust that deer with the sinew string man...Stay the course...

Leave the bow in the sun one day and in a few weeks it’ll be mocha brown. It will turn either way but one day of full sunshine and it turns quick.
Nifty little bow, well done.

Nice work

Great bow! perfect meat maker.

Yah it'd be great to use that sinew string. I wasn't trying to talk you out of it. I'm actually pretty impressed.

bjrogg,
Don't think he took it that way, but you are correct...You don't want sinew or rawhide to get wet! It will come apart or stretch severely if not sealed correctly...I use a pitch, wax and a fat mixture...In a down pour or a long rain I will simply unstring...Wet rawhide is very weak, I learned the hard way...

That's an awesome stick - good job! I have messed around with sinew cordage enough to know that making a string is a pretty significant amount of work. Good luck with hunting!
