Someone asked me to recreate the yew hollow limb bow that I made last year. Well, as all of you know, every self bow is it's own person. A lot is similar but this is definitely its own bow. This was made from a branch with an exceptionally high crown and very tight growth rings that I got from Bryce. It had enough wiggles and bumps to make it a challenge to tame. The sapwood rings were thinner than paper and even with lots of care I managed to damage the ring with my dull spoon that I was using to tease the cambium off with. So to be on the safe side before sending the bow off to someone else I decided to back it with rawhide. I'm sure that it didn't really need the reinforcement but better safe than sorry. I got some beautiful skins from Cipriano to back it with. As the handle started to take shape I realized that I couldn't cover it up with a handle wrap or stick an arrow rest on it. Thankfully the customer was a good sport and went along with me. I'm really thrilled with how this bow turned out. It was an adventure but well worth it.

I love this bow. Great workmanship.

Awesome weapon!
-
Wow, that has to be the best looking bow I've ever seen!
It's a weapon but also a piece of art.
Loved looking at it, thanks for sharing it with us.

I agree, wouldn't cover that handle...excellent craftsmanship
-
Wow, unique and beautiful! That handle is (=)
-
Wow, that is something else. Hard act to follow. That must take some real patience to scoop that out. Do you know what the bow weighed when finished?
-
you are talented...that is unbelievably beautiful... :OK
-
Very very very nice! I'm sure not going to post my hollow limb for a long time ;D ;D
-
Absolutely, beautiful work, what is your opinion of the performance of a hollow limb bow? is it a performer or just a looker?

Amazing craftsmanship as always Weylin! Looking forward to new videos and bows of yours.

I‘m speechless! That bow‘s so beautiful and special and so well crafted!
You could even post any of your bows anonymously - one look at it and we’d all know who made it...
Congrats!!

That's sweet as a nut. :)
I've got a rather iffy Yew stave that someone wants turning into a bow.
Nice dark heartwood, V thin sapwood and a handful of shakes :o I might try an HLD it's not a commission as such but he wants something a bit different if possible.... play time :)

Thank you all for the kind words! ;D ;D

Thanks, Badger. It does take a lot of patience. I used a curved chisel to get it started but then it was all goose neck scraper from there. Slooow going. At least it's yew which carves pretty easy. The bow weighs 800 grams. I don't know how that compares. The handle is a bit bulky compared to my other handle style and it has hide and skin glued on. It shoots very quickly but it doesn't feel super light in the hand like some of my other bows.
Very very very nice! I'm sure not going to post my hollow limb for a long time ;D ;D
Thanks DC! Aww, come on. post it!

Thank you, Danzn Bar. I've only made a few so I'm not an expert on the matter but they seem to perform as well as a comparable flatbow. To me, it's a chance to make a high crowned stave competitive again
That's sweet as a nut. :)

A masterpiece for sure! :OK :OK :OK
Have you some specs regarding draw curve, how is the draw?
Can you feel a flattening out of the limb?
-
Wow and wow, beautiful in every way!

Thanks, Simon. I haven't gotten into doing draw curves so I couldn't tell you on that. The draw feels good to me. I checked out the flattening effect when i had it on the tree one time, it's pretty cool.

Another fantastic bow Weylin. I'm pretty sure we're all looking at the Bow Of the Year here. I'm sure glad you didn't wrap that handle. I love the way you left a little sapwood on the edges of the fades. It really shows off the hollow limb design. Awesome weapon and as always beautiful bend.
