I got this burl from Joe earlier this summer and he told me it came from the coast of Washington many years ago.

I started work on this project back in Aug and finally have it about finished. The top was planed flat then sanded and sealed a number of times.

Epoxy was used to fill the voids and a stone point was hidden within the depths. Obsidian flakes were laid over top of it and they are visible from the top.

The base is made from walnut and the pins are made from bocote and curly maple. The base was fashioned in a way that makes it easy to disassemble.

Once the epoxy in the voids was cured. The entire top was sanded to 220 and then recoated with epoxy to give it a durable and beautiful finish.

Nice job! Cool idea putting the point in it. I was waiting for you to say you found the point in it.

Nice work on that beautiful redwood burl table Scott but think of all the knife scales you could have made. ::) ;D :OK

Fantastic work Scott.

Great Craftsmanship. My old neighbor in AZ did work similar to yours with natural / live edge wood. God sure makes some cool stuff. John
-
Very nice!
-
Wow, Scott! That is simply amazing. You have me inspired to start planing down a big Walnut slab I've been sitting on.
-
That is so good looking, amazing colors.
Great work!

WOW, now that is one beautiful table Scott. See your putting the new shed to good use. I'm sure you could put a pretty good price tag on that table and someone would be thrilled to get it. Just curious does the top float "free" or is it screwed on tight.

Thanks guys. This has consumed me for a while now and it’s nice to see it nears its end.
Pat I may or may not have another piece of this stuff laying in the corner. ::)
John I have had that same thought throughout this project. The colors and movement in this wood are the best I’ve ever seen. My work pales compared to God’s work.
Eddie get to work and let’s see it!
Thanks Bj. That barn has been a favorite spot of mine all summer and now with the electricity installed there is very little I can’t do. The table is screwed to cleats that are screwed to the bottom of the table. The pins hold everything tight together.

Awesome board (A)
did you burned the sides to make them so black?
-
(A) You are a true artist and craftsman.
-
I bet it would look nice turned, too. ;)
-
Glis that was a feature of the wood when it came to me. Probably burnt then fell in the river, floated down to the coast, out to see, up coast against the normal tide and landed on the beach of Washington.
-
awesome, looks incredible nice, congrats for that craftmanship
