These were made for a customer who had just gotten married, and requested a set of arrows for himself, and a matching set for his new father-in-law so they could shoot together.
The arrow shafts are all ash, 3/8" parallel and fitted with 2" long, 1.5mm slips of ox horn.
One set is fletched with white turkey and has a red spliced fletching laid in, and these are whipped to the shaft with red silk. Half of them have hand forged Type 10 bodkins, and the other half have hand forged Type 16 barbed heads.
The second set, for the father-in-law, are fletched in white with a black splice laid in, and these are whipped with green silk. They have hand forged Type 10 bodkins.
All the heads were hand forged by myself. The customer also asked for a linen arrow bag to made for the arrows.

Wow, those guys must be pulling some heavy bows... Very nice work!
-
These arrows will shoot nicely out of very light warbows - 80 to 100lb or so. The 3/8" parallel ash shafts are sort of the "go to" arrows for entry level military bows.
Thanks for the comments people!

Those are really nice. Do you forge your own points?
-
Rob I think he said he forged all the points himself as if the arrows weren't impressive enough. Once again Wow👍👍👍

Hi Rob! Yep, these are all forged by me!
-
WOW! Unbelievable craftsmanship. I admire your work!!
-
that is phenomenal work! those wraps look beautiful- tight and consistent.
having done just a little smithing myself, i really appreciate the work that has gone into making those heads
-
Very nice work as usual, Will. All you need now is about 10,000 Frenchmen down range. ;)
-
If you don't mind, roughly how long does it take to forge those points?
-
The Type 10 bodkins about 10 minutes each. I'm still learning, and have only been forging for less than a year. I think by the time I've done a few hundred they'll be down to 5 mins or so.
The Type 16s take me far too long at the moment - from the very start of the process to quenching after grinding the blades is around 45 minutes. They're made in two parts, and welded together using the heat of the forge, and as a beginner I'm still learning exactly what temperature to get them. Too cold and they don't weld, ruining the socket when I come to hammer them together. Too hot and the blades melt!

Thanks Will. I tried forge welding once. Abject failure. And that was without pointy bits that wanted to burst into sparks. Good on ya.
