In the summer of 2015 Wizard Goat and myself did some trading at the Tennessee Classic. I ended up with a very nice yew stave from him. Having never worked yew before I was a little cautious with it. I took it to rough bow dimensions and brought it in the house to finish drying out. It stayed there until the summer of 2016. Pearl Drums offered to help me with it at the Marshall shoot. As I was packing up my truck the day before I was leaving for Marshall I decided to put the yew bow in my hotbox. I wanted to make sure it was dry. The next day Danznbar and myself were halfway to Michigan when I realized I had forgot my yew bow. It had been in my hotbox since the previous day. I figured it needed to rehydrate a while before I worked on it so I put it back in the house. A few weeks ago I finally started to finish it up.
The bow is 58" from nock to nock. It's 43 lbs at 25". The tip overlays are sheep horn from LoefflerChuck. The skins are broad banded water snakes. I used tru oil for the finish. The stave was pretty much flat with a hint of deflex. I left it alone and just flipped the tips. I made string grooves on the belly side of the recurved tips. That is the first time I have done that. I enjoyed working with yew. It's much softer than the osage I'm used to. If I looked at this bow the wrong way it would get a dent in it.

That's a beaut. Love the skins. Great tiller.
-
Dude, that is awesome!
-
Nice bow! I really like how that grain feathers out on the right side of the belly at the fades. Cheers- Brendan
-
Thanks guys.
Penderbender, this looked like it was a small diameter tree and the heart was off center. That is why the rings are like that on the fades. It also caused the sapwood to be thicker on one side than the other.
-
Very nice indeed
-
Good job. That's a pretty bow
-
Graceful lines. Great job on a sweet looking and bending yew bow.
-
Nice job on that stick!
-
That came out gorgeous Clint, the tips skins, fine shaped handle and grip. All the colors mesh great too, not to mention the perfect bend!! Me likey😉
-
Nice looking yew bow Osage, watch out you don't get sunburnt on those bare legs there.

Like the skins on the yew. Very nice work!
-
Wow Clint
thats a good looking bow my friend
bet she shoots nice too
-
Thanks for the comments guys.
Buckeye Guy, it's a nice shooter. The lighter weight will make it a good bow for the 3D range.
-
Very nice Clint. Your skins, overlays and leather grip all look awesome on that bow. Can't wait to see that one in person.
-
Way to go Clint!! Love everything about it..those skins are killer!
-
Clint that bow came out awesome, I love a low 40s yew bow for those long shooting sessions.
On those small diameter staves, the sapwood thickness can be all over the map, and I no doubt roughed that stave out wherever the cleanest back was.
-
It was a very clean stave Ryan. There was one very small slit knot on the edge of limb.
-
Clint that is a beautiful bow those horn tips & skins really make it look sharp.
-
Beautiful bow Clint! The sap wood makes those skins pop. The horn tips are the icing on the cake. And to top it all off with a spot on tiller. Those yew and juniper bows are feather light and very pleasant to shoot. Great job on that bow!
-
Yet another of yours to look forward to seeing at TN. Congrats, sir!
-
Man! That is beautiful! My eye usually prefers a wood back over snake skins, but this bow changes that for sure. The colors in those skins, sapwood, heartwood, tips, handle wrap, and stitching all complement each other wonderfully. And aside from the decoration aspects, it is a beautiful bow in shape and design. Very nice!

Oh baby, that's a beauty Clintster. Looks like taking your time was the right move, that came out crazy nice.
Was this a bow you had in mind when you were trying to convince us that you were taking a break from osage?
-
A+, Clint. All your details look awesome. I'm really eyeing that style of tip flipping and profile.
Super nice, I'm coming to appreciate bows around 40# more and more.

It's one of the bows Aaron. I have a handful of white wood bows roughed out and stacked in the corner to dry.
-
Thanks for all the comments guys :)
-
Looking good.
-
I remember that one Clint.....:) You started it at Marshall the year before. It sure turned out sweet. It will have to make the trip to Marshall this year for at least a round or two on the 3D range.

Or we can call him Osage Andyew.
At this point, Clint, you don't need to post another bow for the rest of your life. You can sit back on your laurels/kiester and revel in the admiration and adulation of those of us in the sweaty masses. Your reputation is established!
-
Very nice work my friend! I think thats one of the best looking bows Ive seen in a while!
-
Yep, sweet stuff!
-
I agree, bud, you should definitely keep it. Very nice all around. It will be an honor beating you on the range with this bow. ;D
-
Thanks guys. Comments like these from all my friends on PA sure make my day.

Well said JDub.....I think Clint has earned the respect he has deserved with this bow....but I don't think he will "sit back on" his laurels...:)

You are correct Bill. I've got a shorter bendy osage recurve in the works right now.

Ooooh, black fades!
You have my attention!

Nailed it! What a beauty!

I'm not to crazy about making arrows. Once I got into it I figured might as well make a bunch to last me a few years.
JW, I'm a big fan of the black tip fades.
-
Clint, that is a fine looking bow. Great work.
-
Very nice detailed work Clint. That's a keeper!!

That bow is extra nice, you got a beauty outta your first yew Clint.
-
Thanks guys!
-
Great job Clint! I still have to work a yew bow out of a stave, but its coming! I like the skin job!
-
Thanks Cody. I would have thought you would have several yew stave bows under your belt by now.
-
Super nice work Mr yewsage outlaw and the shaft are looking cool too
Sorry for my late response - just found it!
-
Beautiful weapon sir. Stellar craftsmanship.
-
Clint,
Real nice bow - I just hope my first comes out shoot able, or at least "look able". What type wood are the arrow shafts? If'n yer making bows, ye cain't be shooting' ,em without arrows, so ye might as well be making' some arrow, too :)!

Wow Clint! That one thru my head back. What a beautiful piece of work.I've always been a fan of your work but this one tops it buddy. Cant say enuff about it. I stopped everybody in the breakroom to look at this.
-
Thanks guys!
Hawkdancer, the shafts are about 90% hill cane with a few tonkin and what I think is switch cane mixed in. I should be done with them this weekend. I'll post them in the arrow section.
-
Clint,
Very nice bow, the water snake skins are very cool but the whole combination of the skins, the tips and the creamy color of the yew combine to make a really attractive bow.

Beautiful arch, very good job
A perfect balance
-
That's a beautiful bow, I always love the contrast between sapwood hardwood with yew. All aspects of this bow really look great, tips overlays, beautiful lacing on the grips and the skins.
Well done, hopefully you bring it to this year's TN classic I'd love to see in person.
Ed
