Congrats to Cody and Ryan, did you decide on Psychiatry? We could surely use one of them. ;)
-
I graduate on May 4th! Hoping I can make it down right after for the weekend!
Congratulations Ryan!
I remember when we first met you and your dad at Mojam.
-
So Ryan, can I call you Doc....now?
I'm afraid this one will slip past me once more. Jeany and I will be sitting on Torch Key relaxing. Ill be fly fishing backwaters and spin fishing the reef!
-
I've been looking forward to May since last May! This will be my 5th Classic and I can't wait.
Michael
-
You guys are the best! I did choose psychiatry. I will find out where I do residency in March.
Looking forward to meeting your girlfriend Cody! If I can make it I'll try and get mine to come as well!
-
You can start your residency at twin Oaks in May. ;D
-
Lookin forword to bein at Twin Oaks again π.... Brian
-
It's going to be a fun week. I'm looking forward to seeing all my friends again.
-
Right Pat, I was thinking the same thing. ;) :) :) Remember that Ryan, great minds think alike. ;) :) Sorry to hear that Pearl, but I know it takes a lot for you to leave the great white North and head South. :) Clint hope you can make the week, I am so looking forward to seeing all my buddy's again. ;) :)

<snip>Jeany and I will be sitting on Torch Key relaxing. Ill be fly fishing backwaters and spin fishing the reef!
That sounds like HEAVEN Pearly, and I don't even much care about fishin! ...I just love the keys. I can't go down there too much though or I'm like to forget how to come back to work and do my JOB.
Pappy - I reckon I'm more likely to make it to Twin Oaks than Torch Key, ...but not because of the climate! First time I came to the Classic I just figured to roll out my sleeping bag and sleep on the ground. Wound up sleeping in the car cause it was pretty dang cold overnight and looked like rain. :)

Sad news friends. I will be unable to make it this year. My boss's daughter is getting married out of state and he is taking that week off. Bummer! Make sure everyone takes a lot of pics to help me through my withdrawals. :-[
-
It will be lonely in the kitchen, Greg. What will I do? :o
-
Sorry Pat. Just keep an eye on Matt. That was one of my best memories of past Classics, spending a few hours in the kitchen getting ready for The Boil. Have fun!
-
You'll be missed!
-
Greg, are we on for "Operation Marriage Breakup"? We need to take drastic measures to get you to the Classic.
-
Dang Greg, and I was just starting to get use to you :) all joaks aside you will be greatly missed. :( Pappy
-
Yeah Pappy, we were almost to the point of being friends  You better believe I will be there if I can. Who knows, I may pack the motocycle up and shoot out for a day or two. It's just a job. Who needs em? I'm sure they could survive without me.
-
Well I wouldn't go that far Greg. ;) ;D ;D ;D Hope you can pull it off if only for a day or 2. Ya who needs a job anyway. ;)
Pappy
-
Man I had so much fun at the Classic last year (my second) that I bugged Pappy to let me come hang out then I just kept hanging out for eight months and they decided to keep me around.
Been waiting for this thread. Now to get Matt to start up the boil thread. :D
-
Who's working on raffle table donations.
-
I'll always have a raffle table donation. Haven't made anything yet but I do have something that I will be donating.
-
Who's working on raffle table donations.
Having limited Paid Time Off (PTO) accumulated, I may not be able to make it out there this year. However, ...if someone will send me an IM with the address to send something to for the Raffle table, I'd be more than happy to send something to add to the table. Would that be your address Pappy?

Well, im glad to see this thread get going. Even though I've only been there once I really enjoy reading this thread every year.
If things work out the way I am anticipating with the wife and me, I will be moving to within about a 3 hour drive of Twin Oaks. Its a big change for us but if it works out like we think it will ill be going to the classic this year!
And with pappy 's permission I might see if I could come down for a weekend or two here and there?
Anyways I hope everything works out, I would love to see everyone again this year!
Patrick

Keep us updated.

I guess that would be me One Bow, I feel bad posting my address, you guys are so generous and I hope you know ,and think you do this is not necessary but is greatly appreciated, hope things work out so you can make it, rather have yall than donations. ;) :) :) [Mark Baggett 4435 Ashland city rd. Clarksville , TN. 37043 ] Great new Patrick, of course you can come any time. :) I am there most weekends if I am not off playing somewhere else. ;) :)
Pappy

You should do it in Cali everyone is crazy out hereπ
-
That is what I have heard bubby. ;) :)
Pappy
-
I hope the weather forecast looks better for this years Classic. I think the weatherman scared a lot of people away last year. The rain held off for the most part and it was a nice week to be camping.
-
I'm planning on making my first trip this year down with my six year old daughter. She loved Marshall last year and I'm sure she'll fit right in with the rest of the kids at the classic. Plus it'll be some good daddy-daughter time doing stuff she doesn't get to do in the suburbs
-
Good news, Paul!
-
I'm glad you are going to make it Paul. You two will have a great time.
-
Good for you Paul! I hope I can get there this year. Would love to visit with you again.
Patrick
-
That's great news Paul, I am sure she will fit right in also, bring her some old shoes, the creek just seems to draw the kids for some reason. ;) :) :)
Pappy
-
Fantastic Paul! You and your daughter will have a blast!
-
I would love to be able to make it again this year, but I am happy to say that my wife and I are expecting our second child in April. We are expecting a little boy this time! Our hands will be full for a couple months, but expect me to be there in the following years, hopefully accompanied by my daughter and son.
Will miss you all and be thinking of you
-
Man Aaron, that is great! Congratulations to you and your wife. Hope you make it to mojam, I would love to at least see some pictures!
Patrick
-
Congrats Aaron that is great news. :) Their is always next year for the Classic but a new child , that is once in a lifetime. :)
Pappy
-
Well.. the 11 hour drive has deterred me the last couple years but I'm gonna be there this year! Can't miss out on another TN Classic. One question: is there anywhere to use a hammock? I brought my sleeping hammock to MoJam a couple years ago and the poison ivy was a 5 foot tall blanket over everything near the camping area! :o
PS: I want to apologize to Mike (Knoll) and Patrick (lebhuntfish) for promising to be at MoJam last year with lots of trade goodies and the Shaft Maker 2.0. I was in the middle of a long and unpleasant divorce from my ex wife who (secretly) hated my archery hunting, making, and travels... along with a pile of other deal-breakers hidden from me until later in the timeline. Missing the last MoJam to finish up that mess was the best thing that's ever happened to me! Haha!
-
There's plenty of places to set up a hammock, there's a big tree line behind the camp area. I've set one up there a few times.
-
Pappy and Patrick, thank you very much. My wife and I are very excited to meet the new addition to the family.
God bless you all
-
Congratulations to you and your wife Aaron.
-
Congratulations Aaron. After a month of late night feedings and poopy diapers you might be ready for a few days at the Classic.
-
Thank you Paul
Clint, I guarantee you are correct, but my wife will certainly not be ready for me to take a break. ;) Plus I want to be there, we are in this together and I wanna be there for her as well
-
I completely understand Aaron, things were different at my house we had our son, Miss Joanie wanted me out of the way. ;) :) Anyway 3 months and counting down. ;)
Pappy
-
Congratulations Aaron. Bring the family to mojam. I'll supply the air conditioning!
Greg, I really need to finally put a name to you face! Me and my seven year old daughter Marley, most already know her, will provably be there. Look us up!
Having said that, things are in the air still, but I really don't think Vincent and Marley will want to miss the classic. We will just have to add Marshall this year too!.
-
Hope it works out Dv. ;)
Pappy
-
Congratulations Aaron. After a month of late night feedings and poopy diapers you might be ready for a few days at the Classic.
Wait a minute? What? ...men can change poopy diapers? When did that happen? Did I just get magically transported into a dystopian alternate universe? Next you're going to tell me that male hands can actually be used for washing dishes and folding laundry! ??? :o :-\
OneBow
-
Sometimes you have to do the dirty work to keep the wife happy OneBow.
I was showing a new guy at work some pictures from last years Classic and some of the videos on youtube. Made me feel like packing up and heading to Twin Oaks
-
Come on anytime Clint, I am almost always there. :) Getting a lot of responses so if the weather will cooperate it should be another good one, O well as most know that come regular , it will be a good one either way. ;) :)
Pappy
-

Yep, and based on personal experience it is best done in that order. Especially if you, the guy, have been working in the yard or garage before hand... ;)
:)
-
Been a while but I guess I remember all that kind of stuff. :) Of course my kid is 31 now and times have changed a bit over the years. :)
Pappy
-
I plan to attend.
Cant miss the 20th Tn. Classic.
The wife has told me that she ( might ) attend this year.
If she does we will be staying in a ( not to cheap ) hotel.
David
-
That's great David hope yall can make it. :)

Hey, Pappy. Miss Molly and I will be there early in the week. Am looking for osage, black locust, or any other bow wood in either log or stave form. If you know of any folks who would like to sell some logs, tell them to contact me. I am representing our south Georgia primitive archery club. Two of our members will be at the Classic, hoping to buy some bow wood for us to teach kids and adults how to build a bow. Okay?
Dan Spier
-
Clint the outlaw will be there with bells on. He usually has a truck load to get rid of.
-
Clint the outlaw will be there with bells on. He usually has a truck load to get rid of.
So, ...is that Clint's new marketing strategy? Wear sleigh bells around his neck so people don't over look him? ::) ;)
OneBow
-
Yes, I have already contacted Clint, and I am going to help pay his light bill for the next year or so by buying some staves for myself, but I want to try to get some logs and staves for our club also.
Interested in black locust, hop hornbeam, maple, ash as well as Osage.
-
Glad to hear you and Molly are going to make it Dan, I will put the word out for you, I am sure their will be some there, at least always is. ;)
Pappy
-
Thanks, Pappy
-
I might have a couple staves you'd be interested in. If I can remember, I'll bring em.
-
With a mind like yours Scott I am sure you will remember. ;) :) Now me I might forget. ;)
Pappy
-
Well I marked it on the calender's so now I can start devising a scheme to get there
Roger
-
How many more days? Lol
-
That is great news Roger, Bear I am not sure but our web site has a Bear count down. ;)Pappy
-
TTT :OK
-
Thanks Pat, yep it is closing in on us and we are well under way starting to get stuff put together, can't wait, it's like a big family reunion to me.
Pappy

Just catching up on things, been quite busy in the shop getting bow staves ready for The Classic. Since Deer season ended, Miss Heather has been cracking the whip also for the honey-do list. As sweet as she is, ya don't want to leave her list unattended.
Greg: It is with a heavy heart that I hear you won't make it this year. I really look forward to seeing you as well as having your help in the kitchen.
Drums: Will miss you again, this year. Have fun with the fly rod. I'd certainly like to do a bit of that myself, this year. The kids and I have a new fishing boat. Getting excited to hop on her this Spring.
If it's okay with ya'll, I'll coordinate the Thursday night boil again this year. Pat B and I will have to commandeer another brave sole to handle a knife. We've been known to spread a little blood around the kitchen.
Miss Heather, Wee-Wicki and I are so looking forward to getting back to Tennessee. The teenager won't make it this year. He as teenager stuff going on so he'll be staying with his grandparents. We'll roll in on the Sunday prior, like usual.
Bear: Where's the countdown?
-
We'll have to tether ourselves off so we don't get lost in that new kitchen. :o
-
Yep, seems pretty big now, I started moving stuff back in last evening, be hard to find anything for a while. ;)
Pappy
-
Hi guys. I'm new here so this is the first I've heard of this. I don't know of any primitive shoots in my area but this one is only a few hours drive south of me so I'll probably try to make it to see what it's like. I'm sure it'll be a great time. Is there somewhere I can get more info though?
-
Red Arrow, look on the 1st page of this thread. Pappy has posted all the info there. If you have any other questions, just ask. Also, keep up with this thread. Things will be getting busy soon with travel plans and such. I can promise you will not regret going to the Tennessee Classic...plus, lots of us PA folks will be there. That alone is worth the trip. ;D ::) :OK
-
Thanks
-
It's definitely worth the drive
-
Get on youtube and look up Tennessee Classic. There are a few videos that will give you an idea on what it's like.
-
Ok. I'll check em out. Thanks
-
Hope you can make it Red Arrow, I think you will enjoy it. :)Where are you from ?
Pappy
-
Hi guys. I'm new here so this is the first I've heard of this. I don't know of any primitive shoots in my area but this one is only a few hours drive south of me so I'll probably try to make it to see what it's like. I'm sure it'll be a great time. Is there somewhere I can get more info though?
Red I got into primitive archery about three years ago, and I got lucky enough that my first shoot I went to at a local club, there were a few guys there who mentioned the classic.
So there I was, couple years ago, signing up for the PA forums and coming to the Classic thread and asking the exact same question you did.
Here's what it's like. You'll come down early, maybe on a Tuesday or a Wednesday if you can take off work. You'll go down a few backroads and follow the signs and then you'll see the club. A short trip down a gravel road later you're here at Twin Oaks. You'll walk around for a minute not knowing who to ask and eventually you'll find someone in an orange shirt who will direct you to John where you'll pay $20 to enter the selfbow challenge.
From there you'll go set up camp and meet your neighbors. Once you're unpacked, you'll head back to the shop area. Now it's time to find your blank, so you'll look through some osage and hickory staves until you find the one you want, and you'll find a vise and start shaping out a bow.
Now, every night you'll be making food or eating with new friends and neighbors and looking up at the stars and just loving everything about the campground.
The first day will fly by, you haven't even shot the practice range yet! By now it's Thursday and the vendors are setting up in full swing. Have you met Big Jim yet? Cause you'll end up spending money at his place.
You'll shoot the practice range and you'll start to wonder "JUST HOW BIG IS THIS PLACE!?" but that doesn't matter because you've got your bow done on the tillering tree and you're excited and it's Thursday night so it's time for the boil. Everyone in a long line with a bowl in hand and hungry for all kinds of great home cooked food and wild game and sides. Definitely going to sleep with a full stomach.
Now it's Friday and the first day of the actual shoot. You rush to get your bow to the weight you want but don't get overzealous or you'll take off too much weight. You'll get her strung and shooting and then it's time to work on your handle. Everyone will tell you to find Will because he's the handle master.
By now you're good friends with your camp neighbors and you've figured out the perfect time to grab a shower when there's no line and you've already spent half your money on arrows or Pappy Burgers.
Have you met Pappy yet? He's the guy that there's always like five people talking to and saying "thank you for putting on this shoot"
If you haven't found him, he'll find you, don't worry : )
Things are massive by Friday. There's probably 1500 people there shooting and camping and there's a ton of vendor tents and 20 people in the flintknapping pit or gathered around the fire. (OH I FORGOT to mention the fire pit, it's always going and there's always someone around to chat with) Everyone is having a good time and working to finish up their bows.
Speaking of better get that second coat of oil or poly on your bow so it'll dry, cause it's likely going to rain Saturday. (HA!)
Saturday you wake up, get some breakfast, and it's finally time to shoot your bow. You'll take your arrows and head to the practice targets and get her tuned in and ready, and then you'll hit the official range with your score card.
There's some stiff competition in the selfbow challenge from seasoned vets and great shooters alike but maybe you're the one to show them how it's done. I wasn't : )
Saturday night is a big pot luck supper and everyone is welcome. If you're a cook, plan to cook some food to share because it's an easy way to make friends. Grant will tell you that.
Have you met the crew from Buck Hollow yet, or the guys from Michigan? How about Scuba Steve and Bear? They're a hoot.
Did you get a James Parker bow to work on? He makes fantastic stuff. How about a knife? Ever wanted to make your own knife cause you can do that while you're here too.
Man next thing you know it's Sunday and you're packing up and swapping numbers and saying bye and you don't know what you'll do until next year when you can come back.
If you're me, you relentlessly bug Pappy and offer to help clean up and help out on shoots and you show up on off weekends for eight months after the last classic and they invite you to join the club.
So if you show up, I'll be one of the guys in an Orange shirt, and I'll be happy to show you around.
THAT is the Classic.
-
That's pretty much exactly how my first Classic trip went. Except joining the club. I'm to far away for that.
-
Yep, that was it. A bunch of us PA guys all made our first Classic the same year...and we are still friends 10 or more years later.
I'll also be wearing an orange tee shirt. I'm not a member but I spend so much time in the bow shop that they gave me one to wear.
If you can come early you will have a better chance to meet lots of folks. By Friday and Saturday it is so hectic it can be overwhelming.
I hope you can make it. As I said before you won't regret it.
-
I might have to try and make it to this shoot myself. When is it? Sounds like a good time.
David
-
Take a look at the very first post......
DBar
-
I think I've seen you there before, Dave. Oh yeah, I drank lots of your barley pops. :G
-
I think you know the way down Dave. :-\ Thanks for the story Little John , I have seen that same thing
played out many times over the years, then some folks like Otis I have to bribe the first time with a Turkey hunt, then you can't seem to get rid of them. :OK
Pappy
-
Thanks for the 8not and warm welcome. I'll definitely try to be there. What's the situation on bringing an 11 yr old and 14 yr old? Both shoot , but not good. π
-
The Classic is very kid friendly. There is always a group of kids playing in the creek.
-
...and there are always parents to call them down if needed. ;) If you bring your kids they will make you come back next year too.
-
Good to know
-
Is that a good thing or a bad thing Pappy? I'll be down in 3 weeks, hopefully you'll have something for me to do to pay my rent. I don't want to be know for coming light. Pat looking forward to seeing you and all the other friends that I only see at the Classic.
David
-
Likewise Dave.
-
Yep it is like a big family reunion for me also. :)
Pappy
-
We'll be there again this year, can't wait to make that turn into the Twin Oaks driveway. I'll have the wife and grandson along as usual, the two of them enjoy it there as much as I do. i appreciate all the work the good people of the club do to throw this event, it sure makes for some lasting memories for
a family. Looking forward to seeing everyone again and catching up around the campfire.
Pappy
ps; Nate is looking forward to getting in the creek ever since you told him there were geodes to be found there. :) Ever since the classic the kid has become a rock hound. I think the knapping lessons from some of the guys in the pit got him going. :)
-
This sounds like a fun place to visit. I think I might come this year.
-
I think you'd like it, Jon :)
Just watch that Otis guy real close.
-
Thanks Pearlie. Wish you could make it this year. Guess you'll have to wait till Elm Hall to get to see me. What kind of shells did you use in you 16 gauge to kill your turkey last year? I'm going to dig through me shells and see what I have. Want to use it this year after reading you story last year.
David
-
You have enough trouble hitting them with a 12 gauge Dave :G Ya this does sound like fun, I may try and make it myself. ;) Greg I hope he finds a pile of them rock, kids just seem to be drawn to that creek, I was the same way when I was a kid, loved to follow creeks. :)
Pappy
-
Big Dave I used Winchester 2 3/4" #6 high brass rounds. Its the only 16 ga round I could find with some wang behind it. I think 20-25 yards is maximum, at least with the Mod choke in my gun.
-
If you cant find any in O-H-I-O. Ill mail some down to you.
-
If I can't find anything that will work Pearlie, don't send them to O-H-I-O. I'll need them in Indiana. Lol. I have missed one or two with a 12 gauge Pappy for sure. I've even managed to cut a sapling or two down. Counting down the days.
David
-
I'll teach you how to shoot, Dave. Just save me one or two for when I get there. :G
-
1 or 2 , come on Dave you have missed more than that at my place. ::) I seen a big long beard yesterday out in the cold just milling around all by himself right across from the point, he looked like he wanted to get killed. ??? Well I made 2 supply runs yesterday for Det and Sams to get the new kitchen stocked back up for this weekend and the Classic, things are starting to shape up and once we get through this weekends shoot it will be full steam ahead to get ready for the Classic. Only a little over 5 weeks till folks start showing up so I better get on the ball. :OK Pappy
-
Unfortunately it looks like I won't be able to make it down this year because of scheduling with my graduation. Good news is that I'm now engaged and will be starting my residency in June! I'm hoping in my free time I'll be able to make something to send down for the raffle table. I'll be there in spirit for sure!
-
That's a bummer Ryan. What about Marshall?
Congratulations on the engagement.
-
That stink Ryan, was looking forward to seeing you. Maybe next year when you are a rich doctor. :)
We will miss ya. Maybe see ya at ElmHall. ;)
Pappy
-
Gonna miss seeing you there, Ryan. Congrats however on your engagement!
-
I'm planning on coming down after work on Wednesday. Looking forward to it. It'll be a gooder!! dp
-

Got the buttons in yesterday, they look pretty good I think. :) Lots of events have stopped giving them out but I always loved getting them and collecting them from the different places I have gone. :)
Pappy
-
The buttons looks good.
-
Nice! I like getting the buttons too.
-
Glad yall like them, Like I said Michael laid them out and I thought he done a fine job. 20 years, man where does time go. ???
Pappy
-
Those are nice, Pappy. Can't wait to pin one on.
-
Those buttons are nice for sure. I asked for two days off from school and it was approved yesterday. Diego and are hoping to be there Thursday evening between 5-7. We will be camping next to Scott and Clint. I'm looking forward to meeting as many of you as I can.
I will be brining lots of snakes skins with me. I will put a post up on the trading post.
It will be an honor to finally meet y'all in person.

-
Man, this last year went by fast!
Plan on trying to make it again this year.
you bringing some more goods to sell?
-
If I can make...Of course!
-
I can't wait last year was my first. And I only got to walk around for a few hours. This year me and a couple buddy's are going to camp all weekend!
-
Well, im going to attempt to make it for a few days! Ive pretty much got settled at my new place here in poplar bluff mo. Im only about 3.5 hours away from Twin Oaks!
Pappy, if I can make it down for a night or two, do you have any room for me to lay my head anywhere at night? Not sure I will be bringing much with me.
Patrick
-
Patrick, I'll probably have room in my tent if that works for you. Usually Bob sleeps in his car.
-
That would be awesome Pat! I would love to be able to share camp with you. Probably won't need to much more than likely I won't sleep much! (=)
Patrick
-
I am sure we can find a spot. Less than 2 weeks for me. :)
Pappy
-
Hey Pappy do I need to start a new thread on the Classic Trade Blanket?
-
Go for it Jon.
Pappy
-
I know Mullet is bringing a couple spools but does anyone else have some B-50? I need to make a couple of strings early in the week. Once Chad from BCY gets there I can get some from him. For a trade I can make a FF or D-97 string for you or we can figure something else out.
-
OO I have several spools of B50 but I will not be there until Thursday midday. You are more than welcome to use it though once I get there.
Pappy, are there going to be any extra Classic T shirts to buy? I need a 2x if there would happen to be any available.
Neal
-
Clint I'll bring some with me. I should be there Monday about noon or so. You are welcome to use all you want.
-
Looks like i might be coming alone this round... Auggie and my son both have scheduling conflics so we will see.... On a positive note..if they cant come it means i can come 3 days earlier, lol... I will be there come hell or high water! ππ.... Better scratch the high water statement, lol... Brian
-
Thanks Pat and Patches. I just need enough to make a couple of short strings.
I'm glad you are going to be able to make it Brian.
-
ππ...yep Clint, I have been traveling for work the last 2 months(every other week in Detroit) and no disrespect to our Michigan bro's... but im ready to be south for abit, lol... I hear Michigan is beautiful but i only get to see the auto industry side of things, and its always orange barrels and weird left turns, lol... Brian
-
Marshall Michigan is a beautiful place. If you are still there in a month or so you should make the drive to the Marshall primitive shoot.
-
I will be... Brian
-
That's a great place to relax and unwind with some good people and good food.
-

everything looks great down there Pappy
y'all have fun
everybody be safe traveling
hope to catch up with a few of that can venture up this way
-
Wished you could make it back Guy but understand. I will get up that way someday, retiring this year so next year I have no excuse. Patches what is your last name, I will have Miss Joanie put you a xx back. Just see her when she gets there and she will have it bagged up for you. We have some extras but they go pretty quick usually. She sometimes winds up selling mine. >:( Brian that is bad new they can't make it but good news you can come early. Look forward to seeing all of yall.
Pappy
-
Shoot, I must've missed any posts about t-shirts. This will be my 1st Classic but I'd really like to get shirts for me and my kids if they're gonna be available.
-
Red Arrow Should be some , but they go pretty quick. If you will send me a PM with name and sizes and how many I will have Miss Joanie put you some back. We get 300+ but a lot of them are pre sold before the event even starts. :)
Pappy
-
I think my daughter is more excited than me. She was out back yesterday practicing for a good 45 minutes straight. Looking forward to my first visit to Tennessee!
-
What a firecracker that lil lady is. TN get prepared! (SH)
-
Say goodbye to your frog population Pappy. That girl loves to catch frogs.
-
Oh no frog terrorist heading to Tennessee
you and her will have a blast Pauly
-
after last year we had a long talk about not being able to catch every frog she sees. I'm sure I'll bring it up multiple times on the 7-hour ride there
-
Don't consider yourself a failure if she ignores ya on that one. :o
-
We might have real problems folks. I have been trying to get my wife to sign off on me bringin my daughter to Tenn for years. I've finally matured enough or I wore her down, one way or the other me and Ash are headed that way on Weds. Now I find out that Paul will be camped beside us and then he says his girl is a frog catcher too!! Oh heaven help us - we gonna have 2 little girls with slimy legs sticking out of every pocket and every shoe muddy. Guess I better bring extras! :OK
-
Yep we have frogs and the kids really love the creek, with minnows and crayfish, I tell folks after the Classic and I am there all alone I hear a big SIIIII from the creek and small voices saying Wow it finely over. ;) :) Got to love kids. Good looking gal Paul. Looking forward to meeting her. Maybe she can give me some pointers on shooting, looks like she has it down. :)
Pappy
-
Is the classic one week later than normal this year?
-
Nope, always the first full weekend of May [exception] ever 7 years the first full weekend of May is Mothers day and we back it up 1 week, that was what happened last year. Can't do it on Mothers day. ;) :) :)
Pappy
-
OK. Thanks Pappy.
-
Clint, it just seems to take longer from one Classic to next. I think that means you are getting old...er. :OK
-
I know I'm getting old....er Pat but that's not it. I usually miss some events at home when I'm at the Classic. This year I'm not missing them. It got me a little confused.
-
You'll get brownie points at home and you'll get the Classic experience. That sounds like a win/win to me. :OK
I'll be coming by myself this year. Bob McMinn's wife has been under the weather lately so he's not coming. I should be there about noon on Monday, May 1.
-
That's a bummer Pat. If you need help setting up your tent I'd be glad to lend a hand.
-
Thanks Clint.
-
Are you going to be next to me like before?
-
I'll be in my regular old spot, just past the ditch next to where the McGuire's bus was. Close enough to crawl home late one dark night. :OK
-
I hate Bob can't make it but completely understand, as much as we love doing this family has to come first. Hope she gets to doing better. I will miss him, he is out early and comes up and hangs out with me when I am getting the kitchen up and going early morning. Pat I will get your spot roped off. I need to mark off that whole area from the ditch to Michaels camp. Got Mike Scott you and Eddie and 2 buses
coming that I need to get in that area, after they are in if anyone else will fit in that will be fine. :)
Pappy
-
Pappy, We plan on setting up camp in the same place we always do. Right past where Brother Dan parks his camper. I'll be there Saturday so hopefully I can rope that area off before it gets taken.
-
You bet. That's the good part about coming early, I try to keep places saved for a few but sometimes I loose track. :)
Pappy
-
Mrs. Ridgerunner is not going to be accompanying me.
She just does not like to leave the house.....
She said to me" Take the tent and the Credit Card just in case y'all have another flood".
Then she added Ha, Ha, Ha, Ha as she walked away.
David
-
Im hoping to squeeze in there to Pat π... If i end up coming alone i will prolly just do the camper shell thing, lol. My plan is to be there sometime between late friday -monday the week before π... Brian
-
That is great news Cip, look forward to meeting yall also. T shirts came in yesterday , they look very nice I think. ;)
Pappy
Thank you Pappy. It's going to be our honor to meet all of y'all. It's been too many years coming. Scott, you betcha! I will have skins for you!
-
Looks like it is shaping up to be another good one, hope all this rain we have been having is a good sign. :-\ Either way we will have a good time. we have all been wet before. :) David I was hoping to get to meet you wife this year but I guess that will have to wait, See yall in a week or 2.
Pappy
-
Pappy:
I was sure hoping to get her up there.
She is a HOOT. Loves to TALK, TALK, TALK.
Can talk the knots off a Dead Osage Stump.
Never meets strangers.... She just don't travel well. :(
David
-
Clint your coming this Saturday morning correct?
Man let this week get over, I'm ready to head down already.
-
Sure will Bear. I'll be getting there just after lunchtime hopefully.
-
I'll be in early Monday morning.
I'm bringing the blunderbuss kit if any experts want to help me put it together.
-
I'd like to see that blunderbuss
-
Little John you ant going to have time to be working on guns. ;) :) Got a call or 2 yesterday , should have a pretty good crowd by Monday. Hope the weather plays nice. :-\
Pappy
-
Pappy, I may be a little late here but im hoping you have a t-shirt I could get. Preferably a 3x but a 2x would work. Thanks.
Patrick
-
I can hardly wait.... Time to get South... Brian
-
Got it Patrick, I will pass that along to Miss Joanie and she will take care of you. I am with ya Brian. :)
Pappy
-
I added a few finishing touches to the camper, checked the tires, put a fresh coat of sealer on it, and started to pack some stuff in it. Only a few more days until I start driving south.
-
Well it looks like i wont be able to make it this year. Work always gets in the way of fun.
-
Too bad Jesse. I was looking forward to seeing you again. Maybe next year. You should go ahead and put in for it. ;)
-
Same here Pat. Next year
-
Wish you were. Maybe we could work in a turkey hunt.
-
Sorry to hear that Jesse, always good seeing ya. Yep work stinks sometimes. :)
Pappy
-
I know its early but the extended forecast is looking good for next week. Perfect camping temperatures.
-
Sounds great, Clint.
-
Yep, hope it holds, looks like rain maybe Sunday and then Thursday but the rest of the time looks really good for now. ;)
Pappy
-
Pappy, a 2x would work.
Patrick
Better never wash it. >:D
-
Funny Knoll ;) tough crowd I hang with. :o Well I am really looking forward to this, I will be headed that way in a few hours and be there until it is over, really looking forward to seeing all my old friends again and sounds like meeting a lot of new ones. Hope to see yall in a few days. Have a great weekend. ;)
Pappy

-
Miss Molly and I will be there about the same time. See you guys tomorrow.
Dan Spier
-
I'll be in Monday morning. Have to spend some time with the wife before I disappear for a week : )
-
I forgot to ask but do we need to register for a camping spot or just get one when we get there? This will be my 1st Classic: actually my 1st Primative shoot. Also, do I sign-up for re shoot when I get there?
-
I looking forward to coming this year ! I came up 2013 and made a bow with Gary . I would to learn more . I have a fee that wouldn't take long to finish up . We plan on leaving NC Monday morning . Looking forward to seeing everybody again !
-
Redarrow, camping is find one when you get there except for a few reserved ones.
-
...and the shoot sign-up office is very obvious. Find a camp site, set up then come to the office and sign up. Usually this takes a while because you start meeting people and more people and even more people. :o That's just the first hour of your trip.
-
Looks like Sunday night could be wet (R After that the rest of the week looks like beautiful weather (-S
-
That will wash my campsite before I set up on Monday. :OK
-
Well guys, I'm not going to make it this year! :-[ Some last minute stuff came up and I won't be able to get away. It's like not being able to make it to a family reunion, only worse!! :-\ But I plan on being at Marshall for the week! Take lots of pictures for all us MIA guys!!
-
That's too bad Cody. We sure will miss you. :(
-
Clint, I'm rolling in late Tuesday. I have a couple of spools of string you are welcome to.

Neal

Well, no Classic for me this year. We have been having a lot of flooding here in Missouri and with all the road closings, I am having trouble getting out of MO. The trip just is not happening this weekend. :(
Neal
-
Life is Good.
Got the car loaded.
Tell Pappy and Pat B. That I am on my way.
Will see you guys around Noon.
David
-
Yep, no classic for me neither. I was going to try to meet patches down there but there is so much flooding and it supposed to get worse by Sunday in some areas. Ill just have to plan to get to twin Oaks on a weekend in the near future. :'(
Patrick
-
It would be a shame if i couldnt get back to Mo. and had to stay longer πππ.... Brian
-
π’ My van went to the mechanic yesterday and won't ready for a few so I won't make it there either. π’
-
I'll be rolling in at about 10 so keep an eye out for me π
-
It would be a shame if i couldnt get back to Mo. and had to stay longer πππ.... Brian
That would be a terrible problem to have, wouldn't it Brian? :BB (=) (-S :OK
Patrick

The sun is finally out at Twin Oaks.
-
Good for ya, Clint!!
I just couldn't get excited about setting up tent in rain. Will look forward to Marshall.

Patrick
-
Just got back .........Friday was very wet rained most of the day and quit around 5PM ....dry no rain the rest of the night. Woke up Saturday to a very cool 40 Deg. wet morning. -
Well got back a few hours ago from my first experience and it's everything it's made out to be. The people and amenities are top-notch. I'm sure most you that were there already know who the little girl in the pictures is but I was blessed to bring my daughter with me. She made the rounds to everyone's campsite at least a few times and don't think she stopped talking once. thanks again for everything Pappy and everyone else who made it possible. And also everyone that was kind to and made my daughter feel at home

Back at work today :P
David

Thanks for the holly chunk Ridge! Can't wait to tie into them.
Number of other little articles and stoney treasures I picked up this last week. Once I get the garden caught up and the grass mowed I will be havin fun with a bunch of them!
Brought Ash for the first time this year and watched her have the time of her life! Always fun seein kids explore that little oasis. Quite a bit better watching your own git. Her biggest complaint was the cold at night, but who knew it was gonna be 40β’ in May?!? (S)

Great pictures Scott, really glad you got to take your daughter and even happier that she enjoyed it. Paul and your daughters look great in those red fox furs. Hopefully see you in a couple weeks
Bjrogg

Got home at 3 AM today. Better keep an eye on those Parker boys, Scott. ;)
-
I got home about 5pm today. I stayed over another night so I could get some rest and a early start and not be so tired for the 6 hour drive home. Got to sit around the campfire last night with Pappy, Bonepile, Grant, Becca and James Parker and their kids. It was so quiet last night I almost had trouble sleeping and it was strange seeing the camping field empty except for my tent.
Thanks again to Pappy and all the guys and Gals of Twin Oaks. It was great to see so many old friends again and to meet some new friends.
Just think, it is just a little less than a year til the next one. :OK (=)

What "OFF LIMIT" sign are ya talking about?

I got home late last night. The wife and kids were already in bed so I just crawled into the camper and crashed for the night. What a great experience the 2017 Classic was. It felt like a big family reunion. The new improvements to Twin Oaks were put to good use. The weather went from blazing hot to cold and wet, and then back to perfect for the weekend. The rain and cold didn't damper the fun. We had another great group in our camp and even had a couple of girls were running around. It was fun seeing how much Ashton and Nina enjoyed their first Classic. I have a feeling it won't be their last.
Pappy, Thank you so much for allowing all of us to roam your property for a week.
And a big thanks to the Twin Oaks Crew. You guys put in a lot of hard work and it is greatly appreciated.
My pictures start early in the week before the crowd arrived.

I didn't get many pictures because I spent too much time shoving the video camera in peoples' faces. I'll be posting a link to the vid here as soon as I get it edited. Camera operator Nina gave me about 3GB of wonderfully narrated sprinting to sort through

Many thanks to the crew at Twin Oaks. The effort that they put forth is truly amazing. I am so thankful to everyone who had a hand in it. We had a blast and are counting the days till next year. The West Alabama Traditional Archers at the Classic... I am still sore from laughing.

Thanks for the pictures everyone and coming out and making this a big success for us, it was the biggest crowd we have every had and seemed everyone left with a smile, it was a pleasure to meet your girls Paul and Scott, they are sweet as they can be and I can tell they had some good raising. Sorry for all my friends west of the Mississippi river, the showing was small for that part of the country but you got to take care of home first, hope all are doing OK. Again Thanks for all yall do to make this happen. I will have some pictures up on Life is Good as soon as I catch my breathe and catch up some here at work. By the way we had 603 register and probably a thousand folks that came to enjoy. ;) :) :) :) See ya next year. ;) Pappy

We made it back at 4 AM Monday morning. This was my personal favorite Classic, so far. It was great to see everyone and reconnect. Made a few new friends too! Made a great memory with Angie and the Spirit Station work.
Angie still hasn't stopped saying how much she enjoyed it and needed the trip. She was long overdue. The people are simply the best and the activities and events just can't be beat.
Pappy and the Twin Oaks crew...we appreciate the hard work and effort. The Classic is a gift that really makes life a better journey. A REAL piece of American culture. So thankful for it, Pappy.
Didn't take very many pictures this year so I'm hoping to continue to see some really good ones especially from "The Goat"!
It amazes me the bonds and friendships that I've been given coming Twin Oaks. What a blessing.

Was a great time again this year at Twin Oaks, the rain couldn't even dampen anyone's spirits. We really enjoy the fellowship of this gathering and seeing friends, many of which we only see this one time each year. One of the coolest things about this place is seeing how much fun everyone has regardless of age. From 2 yrs. old to 82 everyone has a smile on their face. I was enjoying myself so much that I didn't have my phone with me most of the time and got home and realized I only had 2 pictures from the entire weekend :( I'm glad some of you are more on the ball and got some good photos. Thanks for letting us hang out and relax at your slice of paradise for a few days Pappy. And thanks once again to the entire Twin Oaks crew for your hard work, you guys are the best.

Very cool pictures Greg, I posted a lot more on life is good, several of all the kids, got to love that, it's or future . ;) :)

Hey, Pappy. Any chance you could post the pictures here for those of us that don't do Facebook? It was good to see you. My south Ga buddies really enjoyed the Classic. They sure made Clint's camper lighter for his trip home. Osage forever. Yellow wood for all!

Y'all can check out the video I made of the 20th Classic here: https://youtu.be/Am3ZGyR7W4g (https://youtu.be/Am3ZGyR7W4g)
During the editing process I must have watched each clip at least 500+ times, so I really can't judge whether the video is good or not anymore. Any feedback is appreciated!
Thanks again to the Twin Oaks Bowhunters for working so hard to set up such a great event. It's something I look forward to for months every year.

I saw it posted online a few days ago and only recognized 50-60 people. unfortunately, it gave me a bad case of the "feels" and made my eyes sweaty.

Missed you also Patrick/JW. Maybe next year. :)
