It's been a while since I've shared a bow here. I moved out to the country and then focused on the hunting season but now I'm back to making bows. This is an English longbow I made from a nice piece of fine grained Pacific yew. It is 74" ntn and 56#@28". The horn nocks are from a bison. The handle wrap and the arrow rest were at the request of the gentleman receiving the bow otherwise I might have gone for a more bare and classic look though I like the way it came together. As it is, the bow is a bit of an English/American fusion. It is stiff through the handle which helps justify the length. It is very smooth to draw and shoots surprisingly quick for it's design.

Very lovely Amigo! How does she shoot?
-
Thanks, Bryce. Smooth and quick. I might just have to make myself one of these bad boys some day. Though it's a little long for hunting, I'd say. ;)
-
I think it came out nice. I like the way it looks.
-
The one I use for hunting is 70 ntn and it works just fine on the other side of the cascades though. Around here a shorter bow does seem more adequate, but who knows those old timers used full length yew bows. You hunting second season?
-
Thanks, Joe. :)
Bryce, I am hunting the late season. There's a big 4-5 pointer on the land where I live but I haven't managed to cross paths with him yet.

Nice job on the longbow Weylin

Cool bow and even cooler country side. Gloomy weather and terrain are perfect for 14th century battle!

Del
+1! Haha ;)
-
Real nice looking yew elb, your work on it looks flawless Weylin.
-
you just knew Del would hate the arrow rest! (but he does have a point........)
-
Beautiful bow, very nice work as we have come to expect from you, by the was I like the shelf. ;) Del gifted me one of his bows when he came to the Classic a couple of years back, beautiful bow and very good shooter but I thought he would disown me when I added a shelf. ;) Just not proper he said. ;) ;D ;D

Yeah, I just smiled, but inside I was crying  ;)
You made meat with it, so both the bow and I were really happy :) ... don't get to do that in the UK.

I knew there would be some bitter, tea flavored tears about the arrow rest. ;D Had I made it for myself, I would have left it bare but the gentleman I made it for requested the shelf. This won't be my last elb, though.

Beautiful bow Weylin

That came out really nice. I love the character in it. That side profile looks great. Has to be sweet shooter. Nice work buddy.
-
I like the look of the handle! Beautiful weapon!
-
Great work brother! in all aspects.
I'm with you, the pure stick would match better. But I admire your leather work - just flawless.
The receiver will be very happy for sure.
-
sweet lookin stik, love your work.
-
Thank you to everyone for the kind words! It's nice to have your work appreciated by such a talented group.
Thank you, upstatenybowyer. It is pretty out here, soggy, but pretty.
The feeling is mutual, Chuck. Thank you
Thanks, Stalker. It's a pretty cool landscape. Hopefully we wont be having any battles out here any time soon.
-
Now that is a beauty! Your attention to detail is second to none...as usual. Josh
-
Excellent bow! Love the swirls of the grain and full of knotty character. I also noticed on the image that shows you point to the sky, there's double string at the upper limb?! :P

This ELB is the 4th custom piece Weylin has done for me and as usual he has exceeded my highest expectations. Cut him some slack on the shelf/arrow rest. The customer is always right, even when the bowyer disagrees. I have had 5-6 no shelf ELBs and an equal number with a small shelf like the one Weylin put on this bow. My current hunting bow is a no-shelf as is my 3D "competition" bow. Will try out the arrow rest on this new bow and see what I think. There is a 50/50 shot I will ask him to redo the grip to something similar to the attached picture. Wrapped leather grip with a matching leather plate and no rest. Have also thought about having him take the grip/rest/plate off altogether and just put a small inlay in the bow as an arrow plate. Finally, we debated the stiff handle question a bit. Since Weylin likes the way this one shoots, I am sure I will like it also when I finally get it out to the range in a couple of weeks.

wonderfull

Got my BOM vote even though the existing unnecessary and non-traditional arrow self.
-
Lehtis - I agree with you that the shelf is unnecessary on an ELB and, all things being equal, would probably go without it if we were starting this project today. Still, you gotta admit that Weylin does nice leather work.

Well, sometimes Bows of the Month aren't all they appear to be. :-\ This stave had some twist in it that I felt confident in conquering. I thought I had it licked, put a bunch of arrows through it and sent it out the door. The wood had other plans... It insisted on reverting back to it's former state. I made a replacement for it and stuck this one up on the wall for now. I might try to mess around with it later but for now it's just going to sit around and look pretty. Chalk this one up as a learning experience.

Hey Weylin,
would you p-lease do a how to on your handle? That is sweet.
