Title: A museum night
Post by: iowabow on October 23, 2016, 07:57:32 am
A night of knapping and choppin, Les Lerner, Mark Boswell, Dave Parker, and I did a Museum knapping demo last night at the Des Moines County Historical Museum.  Les runs the Skunk Rive knappin and Mark is known for his stone axe demos, and Dave is an amazing modern knapper. We have plans to do this annually if anyone wants to join.

On the far edge of the image.

A certain display....

And THAT is why you posted about this event.  Still bragging on that amazing display, ain'tcha?  LOL!

That's a pair of nasty ooga-booga axes, too!  Take a Paul Bunyun caveman to swing that one on the right for very long!  I suppose the extra heft out on the working end adds weight to the swing as well as beefs up the wood to reduce likelihood that the axe head would split the handle out.

lol JW, you would have laughted your butt off if you saw me heading out the door.
Inventory of items to take to demo:
 A. A COUPLE FLAKES
B . BOX WITH TOOLS
C.DISPLAY CASE
And yes I had a display case that I was going to bring can you say narcissistic lol. The case was left at home.
That axe chops very well and can cut through a log in about 20 mins.

You are getting a lot more personal return or reward doing your demos and sharing. A good road to be traveling on. Wish I could be there to see all that...Well done!

That really looks like quite a place John.  Cool to get some perspective on that piece you built.  I'll see it all in person, someday!
