Do not put any direct links on the PA website unless they are a sponsor. Doing so could get you banned from PA!!!
-
Seriously? What about like a YouTube or blog link related to archery?
-
As long as it doesn't have a direct link to a commercial site it is OK. If you don't add a direct link you are OK.
EXAMPLE...instead of saying www.patisgreat.com(a direct link) just put patisgreat.com(not a direct link but will get you there).
-
my bad that i forgot to remove the www part to make it inactive...
my apologies... won't happen again...

I am not a sponsor. Please do not post a direct link to my website. O:)

So, When posting a video link it will more than likely show you an ad. That's ok?
-
Nope.
-
Nope.
So, No Youtube videos. Gotcha.

code tags appease then
Is it fine like that? No ban?

Joe, Just check the video for advertisements and disable a direct link, then.

Loon, I explained it for you real simple in the Campfire section.

I hope all the admins agree on this. Adding code tags (# button) makes the links non-clickable, which you don't consider direct?
www.patisgreat.com
Either way, thanks mullet, it's almost completely clear :P
-
I have had wsrnings about Craigslist adds linked here before.
-
If you have already had a warning for posting a link you should be sure not to post another one. That could get you a 6 week ban at least. Read the rules!
-
I hope all the admins/Primitive Archer owners agree that a non-clickable link is not a direct link, thus allowed.
Alright, enough pestering...
-
I was told by the CEO of PA a couple years ago to ban anyone outright for posting a link to a commercial site that does not advertise with PA, no warning, no 30 day ban just gone. If you can't be bothered to read the rules then there is no point in you playing
P.S. I know there are some in the past who registered an account specifically so they could put a plug in for their commercial site without having to pay PA for an advertising spot in the mag.
-
I've always found the rules about this clear enough, and easy enough to follow. Not sure why this topic has to keep coming up.
-
There once was a kid who walked along a cliff. He dared walk so close he could see the bottom. He slipped.
-
You may have it that nail right on the head, Scott. We've been at this log enough and for enough times that those challenges usually don't go too far...except for the kid that wants to walk close to the edge. Some come back with remorse, others don't come back....but PA always stands strong.
-
Then again maybe try to realize that people read someone asking a question and they just want to help someone out and they answer that persons question in said attempt and forget to edit their answer and what they did was an unintentional mistake.
People make those ya know.
Everyone is human. *(mostly)

It seems some people think rules are made to be broken, or at least be bent to the point they become meaningless. Let's get with the program folks. Appreciate the luxury of this free forum, and it is a good one.

paco, we are all about passing on info. I, and most other regulars here on PA do it all the time without posting direct links. Editing what we post on line is a good idea before posting anyway. What goes on line stays on line. I am amazed what some folks post like it will be forgotten seconds later...well, it's not. It is available forever.
There is a legal saying that holds true here also..."ignorance of the law is no excuse"! It is up to the individual to learn the laws of the land (or the rules on PA)before jumping in with both feet.
All anyone has to do is name the company they are referring to or add the link but leave out or space the letters so it is not a direct link. Clint and others does it often and correctly.
It is pretty simple for me to understand and I am almost totally ignorant about computers and their workings.

I don't know why, but for some reason I am finding this thread really entertaining.

Mostly because the Mods are doing their jobs, and some just want to ask interesting questions. There is a lot of variations to what ads will pop up from what site. Facebook does, Youtube does. SO instead of asking if they are ok, just ask yourself, "Does it have ads"?
-
Thank you, Joe.
-
Allowing the "non-direct" link STILL seems like free advertising. I'm surprised even that would be allowed.
-
If no advertising it is ok.The way I see it PA and You Tube reserve the right to display what's been given to them to whom ever where ever they want.Says so in the agreement.
-
This thread should probably be stickied? I find #6 in "Message Board Rules" vague.
-
Man loon your like a dog with a bone how "vague" is it? I mean i read it and don't find it vague at all
-
Can't say I find it vague either
-
No one is allowed to sell or promote their products on the Primitive Archer Message Boards, unless it is under the paid classified ad section of the board. You are still allowed to TRADE under the trading post.
I mean it's really a stretch to get "no direct links" from that for youtube videos with Ford truck ads, though not so much for random products (links of something for sale if someone asks where to find), but a little bit of a stretch. Doesn't say anything about clickable vs non-clickable links, etc
I can say I have a something or other brand thing, but not link to it for sale. Only the latter is interpreted as being "promoting a product"..
I have to stop
-
Really!? We are now on 3 pages!
-
A-a-ron Its like telling your kids four times to pick up their dirty clothes off the bathroom floor. Eventually you're done asking..................
-
Lets hope its not like telling them to turn off the lights, cos mine will occasionally understand about the clothes on the floor but they have never understood about turning off the lights................
-
...because I said so!!! How's that for an answer. If you don't like our rules there are other sites you can visit and complain about. It is what it is. Like it or lump it! ;)
-
It's only vague if you are a sponsor. No advertising except in the classifieds but sponsors have links on their signature and sometimes seem to promote in their posts which seems to refute the first part.
But loon doesn't have to worry about this as a non sponsor.
-
The people that pay get the benefit.
-
I dont see anything wrong with posting a link to TradGang or others like paleoplanet. After all many others here post on those sites as well.
As far as Primitive goes a lot of us use man made glues and synthetics. So where do you draw the line...? ???
-
As long as there is no commercial entries in the link it is OK.
It really doesn't matter what any of us think. The owners of PA Magazine set the rules.
-
Off topic, why are so many administrators and moderators not actually active on the forum?
-
Good question, Pat. I guess once a Mod or Admin, always a Mod or Admin. A few of them no longer visit the site.
-
Thought you'd have to turn your keys in when you left the job.
-
The ones on here tried to have it cleaned up, Pat but were over ruled on some of them.
-
I think the rules are pretty clear, don't feed the trolls and ban them!
-
mods dont have to say anything to be active,,, Im on every night ,I just dont have anything important to say,
but I can say this, dont want to play by the rules ,, dont come on PA
im a paid advertiser,, but I dont wear out my position.
and when I need to say something, I say it
so here it is, I have no sympathy for those who think they can say or do what-ever they want here on PA,, if you break the rules, and get banned ,, dont whine about it, when and if you come back on here , follow the dang rules like , everyone else does.. just saying ,,,,,it aint that hard.....James Parker

Yea, I knew who you were talking about. The ones with their name in the Magazine and havn't been on here forever ::) I heard one that quit years ago begged not to remove his name.
-
And, have you noticed the ones building bows don't have time to look at all of the links on YouTube? Stay off the internet and start shaving wood. You can't be perfect with every bow.

should this be stickied?
edited to remove irrelevance.

Loon, starting to think you live under a bridge.

How many moderators aren't active? That doesn't seem right. I bet they still get their free magazine subscriptions. Who would we direct our concerns to over this matter?
A big thank you to the moderators who are active and have to deal with the occasional drama that gets started on here.

As long as you don't cause trouble, nothing.
-
Who me? Cause trouble? Never! >:D
-
Clint, look at the credits in the front of the magazine. The names of the Admins and Mods is there. Do the math.
-
Speaking of the mag, I saw it at walmart the other day. I thought yall quit printing it?

Thanks Pat. I didn't know that info was printed there. I've done the math on three that are on that list. Very interesting.

In Loons defense, I don't think english is his first language.
-
I was kidding and pushing back a little. 8)
-
His English is better than most who use it as a first, poor excuse.
-
I guess some of you never noticed but many mods that were no longer doing anything are no longer mods, this was done many months ago
-
I was kidding and pushing back a little. 8)
In both of your cases, don't forget that sarcasm doesn't work well in text. >:D

I did not notice that Marc. I was going off the list printed in the last PA magazine. It's hard to notice a change on someone who hasn't logged on in over a year and hasn't posted anything for a couple of years. I don't think its very fair to you and the other moderators who are active to have to monitor everything that goes on here without help.
-
I'm guessing anyone can help them. That's why there's a report to moderator button at the bottom of every post. ;)
-
as much as I like snappy-banter, I'm wondering why it takes 65 posts and 5 pages to cover this topis?
Seems to my simple mind that Pat B was VERY clear:
1. dont break the rule
2. if you break the rule you will be banned
3. end of story

Text them to yourself. Your phone will normally resize them to the proper size.
-
I just tried that and still too big
-
Gut get a free photobucket account or pm me your name and i will upload it from facebook

I got my brother to downsize for me..my other pics went up no problem had to download to computer to do it..not sure why this one didn't ..thanks you though...
-
You can also download Gimp. It's a free photo editing program. It will do lot's of things that I couldn't begin to tell you about as I am a bit challenged on technology, so if I can use it...anyone can. You can edit everything about your pics, including the file size. It's quick and easy to do. Should you go that route, send me a pm and I can walk you thru the steps to edit the size.

MS Photo editor that came with old editions of office. Best tool I have ever found for editing pics
