Title: Shaving set ups.
Post by: Mounter on August 17, 2016, 03:07:50 pm
I have a decent sized shop, but right now with my business and other factors, I don't have room for a permanent set up. Wonder if you'all could share pics. or ideas for mobile vice or whatever set ups. Used to have a hommade shaving horse, but didn't like it and got rid of when I wasen't sure I'd make primative bows anymore..... (Ya I know)!

Never used one or felt inclined to want one myself. I juststand it vertically on the floor, lean it against my right shoulder and neck, and push down with a knife to shave. It helps to have a wall, tree, shallow hole, etc, against the bottom to keep it from scooting away on you.

I like the face on your shaving horse Aaron.

I use a custom Misslemaster stave press mounted on a workbench.

I have two home made horses. Love them.

Aaron, love the wood mule...

Sleek I've been leaning mine against a wall or cabinet, but working the ends is a pain.

Jo, mine was probably not real well made and TBH, it was most likely one of those female induced, "why is this thing in my yard?" moments as to why it's gone... :(

Luckily I have a shop that is out of sight to my wife. Otherwise mine would have been burned long ago.
