Now I know poke berries are poisonous to eat, but what can they be used for ?  Dye?

I was researching it and this is what I came up with.
I want to dye a piece of brain tan. A small piece.

Check out "mordants" and mixing with berry juice. If it doesn't bind well with what you are dyeing then it will bleed and spread. Always try on a scrap piece of material before applying to final project. Not sure what they put in Permanent Markers but it seems to not bleed much.

Salt and vinegar in a separate pot. At least that is what I have found.
Wanting to get back to bows , but it's still too hot for me. Throws my heart out
if I get too hot and dehydrate. That's what I get for welding for 35 years.

Ive used it on wood a few times... Just so you know... It fades to a light purple..ish/ pink quickly on white woods, lol... Never tried it on leather tho... Mulberries or beet juice are my go to's now... Fyi... My grandpappy(and several other locals of his generation) swear by polkberries for rheumatism. He froze them and swallowed one every day for many years, lol... Brian

I made a dye. It colored cotton fabric a pink ish purple. On German tan deer it went pink. On the dark
brain tan I have a weird purple brown. I won't do a hot pink bag :o

Koan:
My Grandmother did the same thing.
She took 10 to 12 each morning.

She lived to be 92.  Go figure.
