Hello fellas, I finished this chokecherry bow up a few months ago. This bow pulls 50# @ 25 inches, 55 inches nock to nock, it has antler tip overlays, it has smoked brain tan for the handle wrap, B 50 string with beaver fur silencers, and earth pigments for the paint, and I put 5 coats of tung oil for the finish. I cut this stave about 3 years ago, so it was well seasoned. I left the bark on it and sealed up the ends after reading about how bad chokecherry will check. This is a very quick bow to shoot, I am quite impressed with the way this chokecherry performs. Thanks for looking.

Hi Marlen, this bow is a dream! The side profiles are just looking great, esp. like the unbraced with the reflex.
I read that some tribes used chokecherry quite often.

Nice bend on that one, great job. :)

Nice job on that bow. Great job showing it too with your photos. I love the grain in that chockcherry and you got a beautiful bend there.

Nice work. Choke cherry looks a lot like ocean spray, a whole lot.

Awesome work. And you can't beat that Basin Sky either!

Lovely bow you made! The belly in particular looks very stunning. Now I'll have to start looking for chokecherry trees around here! >:D

Man I like that bow a lot Redhand. Has a cool primitive vibe with the sinew, brain tan, and green earth pigment. I like the bow design as well as the decorations, again very primitive in style to my eyes. Profiles and full draw look excellent too. Well made bow all around, I'm looking forward to seeing your next one. :)

That's a bow to be proud of.

Thanks guys I appreciate the comments
Simon A lot of tribes did use chokecherry to make bows the Utes was on of them. My grandfather use to tell me stories of when he was a young boy, how is grandfather had made him a bow out of chokecherry that he hunted rabbits with.
JoJo The skies are beautiful out here, especially the night time skies the stars look close enough to reach out and touch.

Goat if you do cut some seal it up good chokecherry will check like crazy.

That is a very nice bow. That chockecherry heartwood sure has a lot more color than any I have ever cut. Sinew job looks great too. I love it.
-
The grain is gorgeous! Tiller looks even better. I have one more piece of chokecherry laying around that eventually will get made into something similar in design. Badly bent has the other half of it. Nicely done Sir! Josh

That's absolutely freaking awesome man. Great work! :-)

Nice bow! I like the heartwood grain color on the belly!

That is a beautiful Bow! Congratulations. Can you tell me what chokecherry is? Common names are tough to track down info from. I live in NJ and Chokecherry here is certainly not bow material (Phytonia previously known as Aronia). Thanks
