I have yet to make a wooden bow only a handful of pvc bows. I am not attempting a molle as my first bow, I'm just trying to figure out which stave I have is best for one. They are both Osage and they both have a couple knots where the levers would be. They most likely won't go over a 50lb draw weight.

How long is your stave ? Do you have a pic of it ? You need to watch close around the pins.
They could go in a different angle and affect the bow.

I've never made a Molle but if I was going to those knots would give me the willies. I would look for a better suited stave. But this advise is worth about as much as you paid for it ;D

Spotted dog- both staves are 63 1/2", one has 1 1/2 of reflex and one is flat. Glad you brought up the possible pin angles because I thought they just went straight up and down.
DC- the only thing about finding a better stave is that I live in Southern California and I wanted Osage because ive heard it's more forgiving.

It depends on where they land in the levers as thwy don't bend

Yes the pencil marks are about 1/2 inch

Be careful when knots aren't avoidable. work down to near thickness first to see how the knots llok the other side. Then reduce the width with leaving good extra material at the sides.

I agree with Simson - that's how I would do it.
The knots aren't weak spots but they are if you cut straight lines through the grain where they lie. If you leave an extra 1/16th either side and follow the grain they aren't a problem.

Thanks guys, I think I will try it with the lighter stave when I have a couple bows under my belt (unless i find a better suited one)
