Well I had a real good productive weekend. We got a door, 2 windows and the a/c cut into the shop and installed. Won't be long until the overhang is built and things are completed. Trimming out the windows and door tomorrow.

Looking good Parnell. Your yard looks like an island paradise compared to mine. Are you insulating the work shop?
-
Great building.
Looks like the doors came from a meat locker?
Do you plan on dust removal etc.?

Looks good Steve, I like the yard also, no grass to mow. ;)

Thanks guys. Got the door locks in and the windows trimmed out and caulked, yesterday. Next will be the roof over the concrete so it's nice and shady.
Clint, I'm not going to insulate it. I am going to block it from the sun and treat the roof with a UV reflective paint that really helps out. If I put a fan on it gets cool enough and if for when its really humid and if the bugs are out then I can turn a/c on in the evenings/night.
Zuma, I'm not doing a dust collection system. I'll be able to open up the cargo doors and the steel door and take a leaf blower and just blow everything out. Good enough. It's just a regular steel door from the superstore.
Pappy, I hear you on the grass. To me having grass in S Florida is a ridiculous idea in the first place. Doesn't belong here and with all of our environmental issues..runoff...Everglades, etc. it's just silly.
Really excited about it and looking forward to hopefully taking on some students when the outdoor overhang is done. Be good to get some new people involved down here for some shooting partners.

That's a great Idea using a cargo container for a shop building. Gives me ideas.

I'm in Jacksonville, too far to come down but that's a pretty cool shop!

Jacksonville is quite a haul. Well, if you are ever in the neighborhood look me up. Thanks.

Those old RR containers are great. I have cut and welded on many of them. Nice shop !!!
-
Nice! I hope to build a custom shop one day. Keep posting progress pics!
-
Nice shop but I cannot imagine building a 4 season structure without insulation and thermal windows

Marc, where Steve lives there is only one season, Summer.

Oh B.S.! Everyone knows they have four very real seasons...early summer, mid summer, late summer, and next summer!

I always thought that the two seasons in those latitudes are hot and humid or hot and raining... ?
;)

Ha! Sometimes the coldest time of year down here is July when it's about 92degrees and 90% humidity and you go into air conditioning. Brrrr!
-
Sometimes they overdo the AC. I remember walking into a bar wanting an ice cold beer and by the time I got served I was thinking hot rum :D

Yep life is tough. In my parts when it gets to warm I cannot work in the garage even with the big door open. It literally gets like a sauna.
I dont care I have lots of bows to shoot and other stuff to do.

DC, you should walk into the bunk room of a fire dept. in Fla. You can hang meat in there!

In all seriousness though, we get the worst of both in Jacksonville, we're mostly between the St Johns river and the ocean, so in summer it's hot and wet, in winter it's cold and wet. I had a friend down from Canada, she'd been down before but never in winter, we stepped outside one morning and she said "Wow it's cold out here, what is it, like 14deg? (and yes she meant Fahrenheit)", I laughed and said "No, it's only 38deg". That's how cold it gets when it's constantly 189% humidity, lol.

That's no joke. Jacksonville is a place of extremes.

You're not kidding about Jax's or lake City.

Parnell, I would definitely insulate it, as you are in a metal box, which is an oven basically. Nice job.
