Title: SOURWOOD ARROWS
Post by: crooketarrow on April 03, 2016, 10:16:18 pm
I made these arrows for a friend.

Sourwood  27"s  5 16's spined for a 47 pound bow. I've still have to rap the feathers yet. And put the trade points on.

Sourwoods a lot easer to straighten that my you'll alternet dogwood. Piece of cake compear ed to dogwood.

Those points are from 1095 steel, 18 inch at the butt end fileded down to175 gr. Retempered to 58 RC hardness. Hand sanded to 400 grit cold blued. They'll stick it cinder blocks.  Never seen one damaged  in use.

And I've missed a few bucks, lot of bucks.

Sourwood is my favorite shafting. Almost indestructible, well seasoned shafts stay straight and they have good weight...and they are naturally tapered.

I've made 13 the last 2 years. Not as heavy as what I'm use to but straightens a lot easyer than any shoots I've used. Try straightening a dogwood shoot with out heat won't stay.   Sour wood you can with out heat and it will stay.

I've been a dog wood user for many years. But sour woods gotten my vote for now. Took me 7 or 8 years to find any. Now I've got a couple dozzen.

But if anyone like to trade some raw shafts. I've got a few dozzen dog wood  3,4 years seasoning.
  I'd love to trade.
