Title: Massey finish on waxy wood
Post by: Mac43560 on March 19, 2016, 03:34:51 pm
I used argentine lignum vitae for tip overlayes because I had some left over from making some scales for a couple of knive builds.  It's hard stuff but basically self polishing as nocks.   The only issue I'm having is the massey finish I put on the bow keeps coming off the overlays.  I need help on sealing it.  With knives I've use a mixture of fat and wax, but I hesitate to add what is essentially a lubricant to my tips and I'm pretty new to this.

Try shellac then add the Massey finish over that. Do a test run on a scrap first.
If the wood is so oily a finish won't stick it probably doesn't need a finish
