Title: antler scoaring

so i finally unofficially scored my deer from last fall. i have no bloomin idea what the number means tho. on the boone and crockette score sheet for mule deer i scored 148 6/8 after 8 5/8 deduction. So... what the heck does that mean???? is that good? i have no idea

although dressed weight wont really answer my question... what are average scores and such? ive never scored before and hive virtually no idea what it means

It is all total inches at various measurement points on the rack, less deductions for the lack of symmetry from one antler side to the other.

The scoring system is just a way to consistently compare inches from deer to deer to see where they stand in relation to deer killed in the past.

There are record books kept that you can enter your deer's score in,  The Pope and Young club book for archery and Boone  and Crockett club for rifle kills. Each has a minimum score for entry.

I could be wrong but I think the minimum for archery is 125 inches and 165 inches for guns.

I say screw the deductions, it skews the score toward "typical" racks.  Gross scores are what I wanna hear...nets are for fish!  Your buck is an honest 157 3/8ths.

Nice buck, for white tail it's 125 for Pope and young [archery only] boon and Crocket 170. Not sure on mule deer but I am sure it is much higher. Nice buck non the less. Was it killed with gun or Bow ?

That's a nice buck congrats.  A mule deer 180 score will make Boone and Crockett typical minimum for rifle.

   He's a keeper.

    I have 2 rifle and 1 ML in the 160's, 167,168 2/8's,169 1/8. He's a smaller than any of those.
