Title: Father and son bows from one stave
Post by: jeffp51 on March 04, 2016, 08:38:16 pm
I finally finished a Christmas gift for son number 3.  His bow is a belly split from my deflexed recurve osage.  It pulls about 20# at his current draw of 18",  but it is tillered out to 25",  just in case he decides to grow some.  His bow is 55" long.  It is a good piece of wood.  Even though it is only about 1" wide at its widest,  I bet I could have gotten 45#  from it easy, especially since I cut its length down some for kid-size.  even at 20#,  when he manages to get it to full draw, it packs a pretty good punch. Thanks for looking.  Now off to make trade bows. . .

Thanks for the comments.  Loon, The tips are some African blackwood substitute for ebony.  The Stave is from Dean Marlow.  I thought he would be interested in what became of the stave he sent me a while back. It had a wormhole on one side that he was worried about, but it was a complete non issue.  Just the right amount of snake for my skill level. It was a beautiful piece of wood, and the belly split has some especially nice streaks of red that you can still see in the handle area.

Some days I feel like lending mine out >:D--but if you want to come down and shoot with us some time, that would be a blast.

And thanks everyone for the nice comments.
