I forged this knife from 1095 high carbon steel. The blade is 5 1/4 inches in length and the overall length is 9 3/8 inches. The handle is whitetail deer wrapped with elk rawhide and buffalo sinew.

The blade is stamped with my mark, the letter Y breaking through an arrow and the cross of lorraine.

I loves me a hand forged blade! ;)
Beautiful work, although I never understood why folks wanted to wrap rawhide around a knife handle that was gonna get blood and stuff on it. I'd expect that the moistened rawhide would swell and make the grip slippery . But I guess there may be a reason for it I just haven't gathered yet.Sure looks cool though.
If it were me it would be because I misdrilled the hole for the pin in the handle. ;D

Thats nice, I need a forge next ;D

Nice knife. Forging blades make for stronger blades than reducing the blade. Pat

Very Nice. I especially like your trade mark. Very "period". What does it represent?

My hobbies are archery and making knives. I live in a metropolitan area so when I shoot my bow I must shoot into my garage. I get back a couple of yards onto my driveway and shoot into a very well protected area. After forging some knife blades one day I picked up one of longbows to shoot a couple of times. The bow was a little heavy for me and I was straining to bring it to full draw. My bow arm colasped, I released short and at the same time I plucked the string sending the arrow off track and it hit my 105 year old Trenton anvil square on. The anvil came out the better, the arrow broke in the middle like it was cut with a power saw. When I was thinking what kind of mark to have is when I came up with the letter Y (first letter of my last name) breaking through an arrow.
Thanks for your interest and all of your comments. They are appreciated.

Here's a few forged knives I have. The first is a Virginia longknife forged from a file and has poured pewter guard and pin. The second one was made by a gentleman in Wisconsin named Olsen and the last one was made by Jaroslav's friend in Czechoslovakia

Super looking knives Mullet, nice collection. There is a lot of character that forging leaves in a blade. Everyone of them different.

Uwe, Mullet great looking knives.
Uwe are those deer dew claws dangling on the lace below the sheath? Really looks great.
Mullet I really admire quill work and that is awesom. Every time I try quill work it is a disaster LOL and I live in porcupine country.

I really like it too. I tried it and ended up giving all my quills to someone with more talent.

An ol' chap that loves knives can get a knife overload in this thread - you know like eating ice cream too fast and it goes to your head and makes your temple pound? Nice work guys - makes me wish I'd started sooner, probably would have made it to forge work.

I know what you mean Bernie, I can't look at a nice knife without buying or trying to trade for it. I just got one of Chris' Damascus in the mail today.Traded him one of mine.I just realized you can walk into any room in my house and find a folder or hunting knife. ;D

Uh-huh I know about that m- so does my wife, as she reminds me often - LOL
