Title: 18 staves for my birthday
Post by: lebhuntfish on December 11, 2015, 11:36:53 pm: A guy I work with once in a while brings me some fresh Osage that he cuts on his farm. He thinks it's cool that I use it and he likes the idea that it can be made into something besides a fence post or a bow fire. He even asks me how I want them cut and he normally seals the ends for me to. Now he brings me whole logs and I have to split them out.

We'll he brought me 5 nice logs that ranged from 6.5 feet to just over 8 feet long and about 8 to 10 inches around.
Today is my birthday and work was really slow to I took off a couple of hours early and came home to get the logs split and in the dry. It's supposed to rain a bunch the next couple of days. I ended up with 18 staves and at least 3 or 4 could probably be split in half. I've never got gold for my birthday before!

Yeah, I was surprised to the first time. But if you knew him you would be surprised that he didn't split them to!

The down side to working outside in December when it's 70 degrees for the high is when the sun goes down it cools off quickly. I was busy so I didn't through my jacket on. Woke up this morning and feel like I'm getting a cold!

The logs was the gift, I worked for the staves! But what a better way to spend my day!
