Reminds me of a story my father in law told me from when he worked in the coroner's office about a guy that robbed a store. He ran and had gotten away no cops anywhere hear, but I guess paranoia set in and he kept running right out across the freeway. The semi stopped him though...

There was Darwin candidate, that robbed the Seminole casino, and tried to get away, by swimming across a big pond. But..... it also contained a big gator. He ended up the same as the guy in your story.

Do a search for Floridaman, there's a twitter account that I think is a website now as well where a guy started compiling these types of stories and called it Floridaman, the worst superhero, lol. My favorite Florida story is the guy who was a pet shop owner who was being sued for assaulting his employee by striking him repeatedly with a live lizard....

Very few Florida crackers still left down here. Most of them are Tourist or Immigrants that couldn't remember how to get back home. Easier to stay here and do stupid stuff.

Although not from florida this one of my favorets.
This was WV about like FLORIDA but with mountains.
A guy boke in a house by useing the basement. He was up staires when the owners came home. Running down the basement stairs a step broke out of place. The theif fell broke his arm and 2 fingers.
Sue'd the home owner and won $ 103.000. Now this was 15 years ago might not go over like that to day.
Unreal storys. SORRY about the swimmers luck. I feel no compassion over any of them.

The one from the past I remember was ---
the farmer who went on vacation and rigged
a shotgun to fire at anyone breaking into his house.
Well a burgler got shot but wound up owning the
farmers house in a law suit. Go figure??
