Title: Sassafras
Post by: Kegan on February 11, 2008, 07:32:04 pm
Or however you spell it. I was wondering whether to leave the sapwood on or take it off. I'm planning on dropping one of the many trees we have 'round here and making a longbow out of it. I'm thinking the sapwood wouldn't be neither helpful, nor detrimental- like mulberry. Or would it be better to take it off, like Osage or cherry?

Sweet, that means I can be even lazier. I mean, I can pay more attention to tillering ;).

I'd take it off.

No real reason, just being cantankerous and since its not me doing the work...

I think I'll wait til I see how thick it is. Thin, I'll leave it. Thick, I'll remove... or decrown. That would make it easier for a narrow (1 3/4") bow.
