I'm calling this one finished. I've been working on it for several months and letting the sinew cure. It is Yew with 5 layers of sinew, Knox and boiled down rawhide and sinew scraps glue. It is 48" nock to nock, 46# @ 27". It is 2" wide coming out of the handle area and tapering to 3/4" at the tips. I wrapped the handle area with rawhide strips soaked in hide glue three layers thick. I've shot a lot of arrows through this bow and it goes right back to it's rested form after unstringing it.
The orange color I made by running clay through 200 mesh screens and then mixing the silts with hide glue. The black color is Tempera paint. And the bow is sealed with deer tallow and bee's wax.

man, I hate this new computer, I had all of those pictures turned right when I edited them.
-
Lol O:)
Sure you did. Still waiting on that full draw you know. ;)
-
Oh man that bow is so cool! :)

Money shot

A beautiful little bow!
-
Cool looking weapon, looks like it fits perfect.
I like your clay paint job and the decoration is nice too.
Plenty of draw out of that shorty!
-
Nice lookin bow! Yew shorties are sweet
-
Thanks, Gentlemen, I was trying to squeeze what I could out of it. Three layers of sinew didn't doo much but when I added the other two and stiffened up the middle it turned into a zippy little bow.
-
Very nice Eddie. Do you think it will be ok with the humidity down there?
-
Thanks, Marc. I have several sinew bows. I try to set them in the hot sun when I take a break from shooting and store them in the house. The air conditioner pretty much runs 24/7. The bow I have a lot of trouble with is my horn bow. I'm constantly have to make minor adjustments.
-
Very cool to see that much draw length out of a 48" bow, looks good at full draw too. You gotta be pleased with the way that turned out. I know I would be.
-
Very cool Eddie. Yew and sinew is on my bucket list.
-
Very nice Mullet, I love seeing these little pony bows.
-
Kewl :) ..bottom limb giving ya stiff fits?
-
I figured it would stress in, Chris. There is also a couple of whoop dee doos in that limb.
-
I bet that spits an arrow quick, nice work
-
Very cool little bow, Eddie. You were more successful than I with the short sinew backed yew. Mine broke at the handle...because I narrowed the handle area. ::)
-
That is a sweet bow, you have done a killer job on that congrats!
-
That's a lot of bend. Cool pigment color.
-
Thanks Falcon, Marlen and Steve.
Pat; I did the same thing and it wanted to bend too much. That's why I built up the area with rawhide.
-
Nice little shorty Eddie. :)

Cool way to color your bow
-
Cool little bow eddie

That's a great looking bow Eddie. I love the bend. Worked a lot out of that little guy

Thanks, fellas. I've never really had a problem with the humidity and sinew down here. I usually try to seal them good, mostly with skins and Spars Urathane and obviously I don't shoot or hunt with them in the rain. Hunting season here is usually the lowest humidity we have except when the rain is coming through with a cold front. The humidity will drop down in the 40's later this week after the rain moves out and that is like desert breathing for me.
-
Really looks lethal.
Nice job.
-
Now that's a great bow to hunt with when you're hunting the thick stuff, also you were pretty resourceful on the finish.
Great Job!
Every time I see nice sinew backed bows it makes me want to try making one. Maybe I'll get a bow all ready for sinew before next years TN classic. I figure that there will be plenty of brain power there to give pointers, plus it will show others newbies like me how its done.
