Well, im trying to see how fast a bow I can build. Im trying to out perform Patrick's trade bow Fury.
I made the bow Slightly Ticked and measured its set. After tracing its outline, I took a stave and worked it down. I bentthe bow blank on my caul to match SSlightly Tickeds shot in profile. The thinking was I could add deflex so set wouldnt happen. I also made it longer, wider, and 10# stronger. Have had a few problems. The most of which, the bottom reflex tip wants to straighten out too much. Its killing me on string angle and limb timing. I heat treated the mess out of it but it doesnt help. So im probably going to reduce the upper limb thickness to match at full draw. That of course will drop its weight some but thats ok, it's 54#@26, im going for 55@28. Here are some pics.

I've had better luck getting high arrow speed with recurves rather than RD bows

Without working on release, im getting upper 190s with a 320 grain pulling 50@26. Im very certain with some release practice id be 200s.

Shooting such a light arrow you need to be looking for higher dry fire speed. Ultra light tips, and probably shorter limbs would get you more speed @ 6gpp.

My best speeds have all been from recurves. Short sharp and a r/d profile.

Recurves for me too. And I also didn't full draw it unless I had too.

Isnt this a recurve? The tips just work. How ( im actually asking here in ernest) can I increase speed? By the way, Jo5h now owns this bow. Its been pulled back to 60#@28:. Too dark to chrono and I completely didnt even think about an fd curve.

Not really it's more of a r/d profile.
Try a static recurve, deflexed handle, reflexed from the early mid limb out to the recurves. Make the recurves as short and sharp as you can, I aim for a full 90 degs. Get the tiller as perfect as you can before even bracing it. I do this by 'vice tillering' eg. clamp the handle in a vice and bend the limbs by hand. The aim being to keep the wood as fresh as possible. 2 inch wide out of the handle out to mid limb then taper into the base of recurves and make the recurves as narrow as possible. I also like to make them a triangluar cross section like the kasan on a Turkish hornbow.
Use the nicest straightest, cleanest stave possible...that normally means z spliced billets.
200fps at 10 gpp should be the goal 8)
Or make a Turkish hornbow at 100#+ and do loads of push ups and pull ups ;D
