Hey everyone! I'm a long time lurker of PA, but never made an account until now. I would browse pics after pics of bows and read through threads when I have the itch to build a bow (i'm away at school except for breaks and the occasional weekend). Anyways, when i'm back home next I want to finish and stain 2 bows that are fully tillered but need advice on the handle/riser. I have some black fake leather I want to wrap around the bow handles, but I'm not sure how to properly lace the string/leather cord or what types of knots are used. Looking foward to talking with you guys in the time to come!
General Info about me as a bowyer; I've made 4 successful bows and broke 3 other ones, so I like to think i'm not so much of a beginner anymore. I'll try to post them all together when i'm home next! All red oak boards, some bendy handles, some with glue on risers. I hope to eventually get a stave but its hard to find them back home.

These are for shoes but they are the same thing.

There are some good grip posts under How-To's and Buildalongs - you can get there from the Main Discussion Area.

Look for real leather scraps at yard sales or in the scrap pile at a Tandy leather store. You will like the feel (and smell) better than the fake stuff. If you go to all the trouble to build a bow, genuine imitation Naugahyde is not the way to go. We need to save the endagered Naugas anyway ;D

This one is good, I finally got decent wraps when I did it this way. You can get cheap chrome tanned leather from hobby lobby and michaels and it's way nicer than the fake stuff.

I get almost all my leather as scraps from Hobby Lobby. Tandy has a lot of selection, but they also have a super high price to go along with it. I also learned a trick from Mullet, Keep your eye open for couches left on the curb. >:D They have a lot of leather on them!

Leather coats at Goodwill etc. are another cheap source.

Thanks for all of the advice everyone! I think I will try to find some real leather instead as well, if i'm putting 20+ hours in a bow, I better not half ass the ending of it.

Here is one I did on a non-laced handle;

No idea there were soooo many ways to lace my boots!

I liked the CIA one ;) ;) You could encode the draw weight in the lacing.
