This is my first real knife. I used an old USA made Arcade file. I annealed it, shaped it, normalized it, hardened it in my forge, and tempered it. Then I sanded it and sanded it and sanded it some more. I had 8 hours in sanding and polishing the blade. Next time I'm doing some sanding before hardening. The scales are curly osage from the limb on my broken bow. The sheath is beaver tail on leather. I put a good edge on the knife. It will slice a phone book page. This knife will see some action this fall.

That dude sure turned out nice Clint! You couldn't tell that is your first one for sure. You're going to have to make another one though. Got to have one to shave with while you hold that on up for a mirror! Patrick
-
Thanks guys!
Just jump into it Tim. I've been gathering knife making supplies for 2 years. This summer I finally grabbed something and started working. I wish I would have done it a long time ago. I'm hooked.
-
Do you plan on at least cleaning it up a little? ;) Seriously though, beautiful!
-
Looks great Clint, even better when the Osage gets darker!
-
Wow, super job there! I like that you kept some of the original file hatching on it.
-
What a keep sake! You will enjoy that knife for a lifetime! And then your kids will fight over who gets Dads first knife! 8)

-
Damn Cliff, this is a beautiful knife. Very well done! 8)

Anything you can't do better than most everyone, Clint? Dog gone, son! When I realized I was looking at the camera reflected in the blade, I realized you had taken this one to the Nth degree, too! Best of all, I know you are gonna carry it and use it, not treat it like some princess.
-
Looks darn nice. What grit sandpaper did you finish up with?
-
Damn Cliff, this is a beautiful knife. Very well done! 8)
Cliff ??? Have you been sipping to much barley pop Pat?
-
Thanks guys!
JW, It does have a nice shine to it. I just got lucky it turned out as nice as it did. I've done a lot of research on knife making. I just listened to what all the youtube videos told me to do. And it will have some deer blood on it this fall. I promise.
Trapper Rob, I took it down to 2000 grit and then used a buffing wheel on my bench grinder.
-
You always set the bar a bit higher Clint. That's a gooder!! dp
-
That is one handsome knife Clintster, way to come out swinging on your 1st.

Super nice job Clint, looks sharp.

Beautiful knife Clint. I have one with a very similar design that I haven't finished.
-
Hey Clint ................next summer your going to have to have a knife build a long gathering at your place... ;D
DBar
-
We can do that Bill. I was wanting to have you guys out this summer but life has been hectic lately. Maybe we can still get together one more time before winter.
-
Getting all you guys together making sparks might not be a good idea in the summer. maybe pick a wetter season
-
DC, with as wet of summer as we have had I think we will be OK.
-
It's OK, I guess. It was your first, so gotta cut you some slack. >:D
Very impressive!
-
Nice knife Clint, I need to make more knives. Wild man gave me a nice blank, I was thinking of using some sheep horn for the scales. Just what I need, another hobby! Haha
-
Thanks Greg.
Goat, I have found knife making just as addictive as bow making. Slap some scales on that blank and finish it up.
