Title: Advice on buckthorn
Post by: LittleBen on August 31, 2015, 01:09:28 pm
Had the chance to slaughter a few buckthorn trees last week. Got some nice billets from a trunk maybe 6" diameter and 37" long,  a stave for a kids bow, and a nice (albeit snakey) limb about 4"-3" diameter and 7'.

Looking for thoughts on bow width. Obviously the billets need to be a stiff handle bow, I'd be open to a bendy or two from the long piece, but also prefer stiff handle.

I'm looking to make me for 26" draw but could use advice for 28" as well in case I change my mind. I've got time cause they're just cut, but at least I can file the recommendations away in my noggin for later.

Thanks!

Benny I have made several BT bows, I love the stuff. Id suggest a temper, it will turn bright yellow when you do so. As far as width and length, MAYBE 10% more than osage or yew would need to be.
