Title: 3 more trys at a good bow
Post by: thomas74p on May 09, 2015, 01:09:15 pm
As always I used Osage. First one is a take down style bow I made from a piece I thought would never work but it has lasted 6 months now and shoots pretty decent. I wrapped some skunk fur around the handle to conceal the fact that its a piece of metal. Both limbs are ideticle because they were the same piec e of wood that I split down one ring. so one limb is from the early 90's and the other is the late 90's rings , so that's kinda cool I guess. It can draw 26 inches, maybe more but that's my max draw so I dont know. Its about 47 lbs at 24 inches and its 54 inches ntn.

The second bow came out under weight so I cut the recurvetips off and tryed to get it heavier. Didn't really work well but it's a buety with a cool hole in it so I named it hole shot and fixed it up for my wife. She loves racing so I thought it would be a cool name for her bow. Its about 55 or 56 inches ntn now and only pulls 31 pounds at 24 inches but is fully capable of 26 or more in draw length. Tiller ain't to perfect but she don't seem to mind or notice.

This last one is my most recent one and its a real heavy dude. I already reduced it down 7 lbs cause it hurt me too much the next day to shoot. 40 years old now. Its 53.5 in NTN and weights in at 55 lbs at 24 inch draw I can only draw it to 25 inches but a bigger man could probly take it to 27 or more without protest. Super accurate and doesn't kick much considering its weight. By far the best I've made and shot. I know you guys like imperial measurements but I do everything in metric. Dementions are upper limb 29 mm X 18.5 mm tapering to 16 mm wide X 12.5 mm thick and lower limb is 29 X 19.5 tapering to 16 X 14 .

Nice looking bows Thomas, I think the skunk wrap handle on the first one is way cool. :)
