Title: Suggestions for stripping Tru Oil?
Post by: CrazyHorse1969 on April 01, 2015, 09:45:26 am
Any suggestions (or, previous threads) for stripping--maybe even retillering and backing--a self bow that has several coats of Tru Oil? Of course, my main concern is to not muck up the back of the self bow too much in case I decide not to back it. Thanks.

The sharper the better.  Like a pocket knife or something like that.  Nice and delicate. :)

If it is over top of snakeskins, wipe it with acetone and scrape with your fingernail till its almost through then rub it with a rubber sandpaper cleaner block. Paul came up with it! :D

Acetone and a scotchbrite pad.

I've lightly scraped Tru-Oil off a bow and a buffing with 0000 steel wool. This is one reason I prefer Tru-Oil, ease of repairing and refinishing.
