Hi guys,
I hope everyone is well, sorry I have not posted a bow in while, I have had a lot on.........
Here is a project I have been working on, a good friend of mine purchased this Pacific yew ELB from a bowyer in Canada. He was not happy with it. ( see Pics) and asked me if I could make some thing of it.
I was supposed to be a longbow with 45lb of draw at 28" and was lucky it pulled 35lb........it had a silly amount of set and one limb had a wicked twist.
But is Yew and it is a full length stave.
Not to be wasted.
From this..........

To this......
cut the rubbish nocks off, flattened the back made up a hickory core and power lam and backed the whole lot with pole bamboo.
Nice little recurve, quite thin but with thickish limbs....nice and quick!
66" NtN 48lb @ 28".

Last couple...

Nice recovery. I'm amazed that some folks will misrepresent themselves just to make a buck. Good for you for totally eliminating the original maker in your makeover. Well done...and welcome back!
-
Did the workmanship of one of our Canadian members just get bashed? lol
Looks good now.
-
Well there you have it.....it's for sure a fine bow NOW....very nice work, sir!!!!

Wow, great job. Nice save. In the original pic, that seems like an awful lot of set for a 35# yew elb. Looks like it was only bending in the handle.
-
Vast improvement......nice salvage job for sure. Congrats on a fine bow.
-
Wow. .. that is a great improvement. .. very clever/cool transformation
-
Thats quite the make over...no one wood ever know if ya didn't mention what it was before.
-
Nice turn around
-
Woo, Yup, your version is much better.
I hope you kept those nocks, you could enter them in the "Ugly Nock" contest >:D
Nice save.

Nice stave on that bow, looks much better than the original. And ya I'm with bushboy, wasn't me either! Haha
-
Thanks Fella's,
I could not believe that bow stave when I saw it......How you could take someones money and send THAT is beyond me. Ridiculous. To much Hassle to send it all the way back to Canada from Australia, let alone argue the toss. To much distance.
Expensive piece of yew, that one!!!!
He is a happy camper now tho.............lol
Cheers,
Mick.

I've never put a tool to a piece of yew, so not me either! :). How much did that bow set him back?
-
Was the original bow all heartwood?
-
Yes, it was......
Dont really want to talk about the crappy stave here guy's, lets just stay away from that.......
Thanks.
