Finally wrapped this one up and shot it a bunch. I like it.
62.5" ntn

Deer rawhide from Mr Pat - Thanks sir, looks incredible on there.
Osage stave came from Clint's 1990 something stash, thanks Yoder
Overlays are piano ivory. Very thin and light, but brittle.
I used Uni Bond for the brush knocks and titebond 3 for the rawhide. Tiny sinew wraps hold the ends of the rawhide in place. It shoots like any other self static really. The added weight on the belly is near equal to overlays on the back, maybe a fuzz heavier. It'll kill a deer and that's all I build bows for.
Thanks for looking. Ill answer any questions I can.

Very cool bow, Pearlie. I really like that blotchy look of the rawhide.

Man, that is another sweet one!

You know Pat, that stuff fought me like a dog during the application process. I thought sure Id unwrap to a wrinkly mess. Turns out it was the best rawhide job yet. The colors and clarity are amazing and I only had a few spots to fix up with ca glue.
-
Allright looking great. :) Markus
-
That bow turned out great Pearl Grums. I will be expecting to see a picture of it laying across a deer this fall.
-
Cool! Came out looking super nice and the tiller seals the deal, flawless looking bend.
How'd you get that look on the rawhide? really like it. Tips are especially nice too.
-
Boy you can tell that one just came out of the vice. IT'S YELLOW
I love that color.
-
What the! How the!?, friggin awesome!
-
Nice Chris. I'm with Greg, that finish on the rawhide is fine stuff! But then, all your work is Grand Maestro level. Thanks for sharing your expertise.
-
Masterful work as always. Love the FD. Hope you make meat with it this fall.
-
That's one for the thick woods...ya better take that one there!!! Finished up nicely pal ;)
-
Very nice looking bow PD! Rawhide looks great on there! Was there a problem or is it just for added insurance?
-
Looks great PD, still need to finish my hackberry version...
-
Very nice looking bow PD! Rawhide looks great on there! Was there a problem or is it just for added insurance?
Pearlie added rawhide to keep the ticks off it if you know what I mean.
-
Nice looking bow Chris. Was the rawhide just for added insurance? The only reason I ask is because I have no experience making a bow of that style.
-
Looks great pearlie, f/d is nails
-
Been waiting for this one. Chris i agree on the rawhide job, very well done. Reminds me of birch bark and it should work well in the woods! Looks like you still have plenty of string on the grooves at brace.
-
Just beautiful! Put me in the "love the look of that rawhide" camp, also.
-
Holy smokes, that thing is awesome Chris. Like you said the rawhide is amazing. did you run into any stability or line up problems with them fish hooks?
-
that*s a realy beauty, Hans
-
That one really came together nicely.
-
That bow turned out great Chris, thanks for posting the process too for us noobs.
-
Those static brush nocks are cool.
-
Looks great Chris, and like double o said, I too cant wait to see it laying across a deer.
-
Great piece of craftsmanship, Chris. Simply great!
-
She's a beauty for sure!
-
Beautiful bow PD, gonna have to get me some of those brush nocks
-
Well if thge number of bows you build, is anywhere close to the number of deer you kill, I need to rob your freezer. Nice bow....and I won't tel ANYONE....
-
Thanks guys. I appreciate it! I make so dang many bows, hard to say if it gets hunted in 6 months? Id like to think so.
The rawhide is el' natural. I didn't do anything but lighty sand the inside prior to glue up. Then steel wool'ed the crap out of the outside to get it baby butt smooth. The blotchy pattern is just the way it is. The bow is much darker in person, the direct sunlight really made it look yellow. It 20 year old wood.
I added the rawhide because I found a minute tear/splinter and decided to head it off. I was already torn about adding rawhide prior because Nel's did on most of his. The issue that arose called my hand, so the rawhide was added and Id like to think made a solid bow. Its been shot a lot already.
-
Wow, really like this one! Nice work man.
-
One of the best looking bows I have seen.
-
Nice job, Pearl. Sweet looking bow for sure. I'm just curious, with all the attention we pay to keeping our tips lighter, how do those tips affect the hand shock?
-
That turned out great Pearlie. That is a fine bow. God Bless
-
It's a shooter- enjoyed watching this one come to life!
-
Gorgeous!
-
Nice looking bow. Thanks for letting us see it in its different stages.
-
Nice looking bow. I've never had problems with small tears on the back, as long as they don't go through to the next ring
-
Great job on that one Chris, You would never know it was your first Grumley style.
-
That came out looking awesome. Very cool finish on the rawhide.
-
That is a sweet bow. That pattern in the rawhide looks real nice on there. Only going to look better and better as that yeller wood darkens.
Looks like a true Grumley. 8) Gotta love brush nocks...No more "what-a-minute bushes" or "where-do-you-think yer going brambles" :)
-
Just what I'd expect of you! You have to give that thing a good run in Grayling this fall just for the nostalgia.
-Dan
-
It turned out great! I agree the backing looks really cool.
-
Thanks again guys!
I should have mentioned. I wiped two coats of shellac on, then followed it up with four coats of Helmsman clear satin spray. No glare at all from any angle. The shellac seemed to fill in the rawhide a bit. Im really falling in love with base coats of shellac, especially on skinned bows.
-
Beautiful bow, very nice work as usual :)

Turned out really nice PD
-
That one sure finished out sharp! Josh

After reading the letter about your Grumley bow, I had to make of those hand shock junkers for myself... ;)
-
Nice, Drums. Nice...
-
That one looks like a keeper for sure. Super nice!
-
That's a sweet bow
-
Very nice. That ought to hunt. :)
-
Must be something about Michigan! I bet Mr. Nels would be proud to have his name associated with that bow.
-
That bow is beautiful. Some people might build a Cherokee bow because they have Cherokee blood in them or Seneca bow because they have Senega in them or whatever their heritage might be. That bow is a great representation of the heritage of the great state of Michigan.
-
Sorry i missed this when it was on front page, but great bow, your tiller is always perfect. Your finishing touches are well noted.
-
Excellent looking bow,A+
