what is a good way to add a shelf to a shelfless bow? I dont want to use any plastic rest or anything want to stay primitive.

You can do a floppy rest with leather.  You can also make a rest with a golf tee.  I forgot were i saw it but it worked

You can make a rest out of most any thing Wood, leather, bone, antler, horn. you get the picture.

a piece of antler tip...cut off and filed flat on one side works great....but who uses Rest on a Selfbow????

I do. I just put a piece of thick leather under the grip where the arrow needs to rest,I can
shoot of my Knuckle but it is just easier for me to have a rest. :)

I usually add a built-up leather rest under the grip like Pappy said. The Ferret's floppy rest works well too.

I think Gordon used the bulbous end of a golf tee as a rest on his latest Hazelnut build along. I've never shot without a shelf, but I'd be willing to give it a try someday.

yeah my uncle said when he shot his old longbows hed get a good brush burn if he wasnt wearing a glove.

finger tabs work good though for heavy bows.

yeah ....maybe for Bows over 60 pounds ...my Fingers are like Rawhide now...so a String dint even bother me....but my Forearm is still a bit on the Girly side!!! This is what my new Bow I just finished did to me this last weekend..... I only had it Braced at 4 inches....sure did bite!!
