Title: Shawnee Forest Hike
Post by: Badly Bent on February 09, 2015, 09:11:23 am
Was the wife's birthday over the weekend and she loves to hike so I got a cabin rental in the Shawnee Natl. Forest and we drove down Thursday for few few days of hiking. Was 36 when we got there and warmed up to 62 degrees by the time we left sunday afternoon. My legs are sore, man that woman can walk non stop for hours. Occasionally I could get her to stop just long enough for me to snap a few pictures. Beautiful area down there even in the winter when all is dead. If you live close enough and have never been there it is a great place to spend time outdoors. Was a great time and we're already talking about going back to see more of it. Was hard to come back home to the 18" of snow and mess on the ground here.

-Man your hardcore Chris, only time I'd hike in thigh deep snow for 7 hours would be if there were a elk or moose at the end that I could shoot, but I'd probably drop from a heart attack two hours into it. :)
-Yes Clint it's a nice place, your probably not that far from it yourself.
-Old smokey john jones pretty much goes wherever Sharon goes Pearly.
-Pappy we were 3/4 the way to Twin Oaks, the landscape sure does improve the further south we travel.
We'll be going those extra couple hours south though in a few short months.

Thanks guys, I'll pass the b-day well wishes on to Sharon. :)
Wizardgoat, I always have a stave saw in the truck but don't think they allow me to use it there. :(
Wildman, I'll be hitting you up for some inside trail info. before we head down next time for sure, thanks.

I did have an hour saturday to stump shoot there just before dark while the wife read some at the cabin. Took a elm bow that I had just finished and I don't know if it was the bow or the serenity of the place but
I couldn't miss anything that I shot at. ;)

I remember meeting that dog at Twin Oaks.  Infinite capacity to soak up attention, the big schweetums!

Looks like the three of you had a great outing.  Good for you, having a gooder!

Nice pics, time stamp is a bit off though.  I wish it was that nice here instead of the 2' of snow on the ground and blistering winds we're getting right now.

Yeah Marc noticed that time stamp and figured out how to adjust it yesterday, looked back and see I have several photos on file with dates off by a few years or more. :o Damn high tech. gadgets. :)
Cold here now too, single digit temps and below zero wind chills, hate it.

I disabled the time stamp in all my cameras.

Awesome post Greg.  Happy birthday to Mrs. Sharon!  Looks like beautiful country and time well spent.  I have seen you shoot - in my opinion it wasn't the bow or the surroundings - you are just a good shot!  Hello to Smokie too.  Hope to see y'all at the Classic.
