This is my first post my name is Hans and I've made a workshop at simson's, where I've made an osage static for me. Simon inspired me lurking around PA - and here Iam.
Here is the first bow I made myself, it turned out a little lightweight so it fits perfectly for my wife.
It's a black locust 64” long with a nice character at the handle area in it. The recurves are steamed it and then a bit heat treated. Overlays are buffalo, grip is buck skin.
Hope you like it

Great job. Talk about the ultimate mentor. I would love to be Simon's apprentice
-
Oh, and welcome to the addiction
-
Very nice, you did a very good job working that kink in the wood at the handle.... :)

hey Hans, nice to see you here my friend.
You have done a pretty fine job here.
Welcome here on board!
@ all others: Hans is heavily caught by the bowmaking virus, I know he is already on the next one a chinese stink tree (ailanthus altissima). We will see what he 's doing with that stick ....

I can see Simons influence on your bow, he is a perfect person to learn from. Nice bow Hans!
-
Very nice. You did your teacher proud I'm sure.
-
That is a killer bow Hans. I love the look of it and you did beautiful work all around on that bow, please be sure and post your next one as well. It looks like yet another master bowyer has arrived from Germany. :)

Beautiful work Hans

I love that handle. Sehr schön. Danke und Wilkommen.
-
that is a sweet bow! Welcome, bzw Willkommen!!
-
Very nice job. Is that your first bow? Nice to see new work. Welcome to PA.
-
How long did it take you to recurve those limbs?
-
Awesome Bow! Great job! You are learning from one of the very best!
-
Thanks a lot for all kind compliments!
I know that the overlays are a bit too heavy and the lower limb bends a bit too much.
Yes, it`s a pleasure to know Simon and his also great family. I`ll try to learn from him so much as possible
>Parnell: yes, it`s the first bow I made myself, except the one in the workshop.
>xpertbushman: each limb was steamed for ~30 Minutes and than for ~10 hours fixed in a caul to dry.

Very nice bow. :) Pappy

Nice bow
really like the wood grain curves in the handle
-
Very nice bow Hans. Your finish work is spot on
-
Outstanding first effort! Kudos for finding yourself one heck of an "apprenticeship" there :)
Here is the first bow I made myself, it turned out a little lightweight so it fits perfectly for my wife.
A masterstroke!! finding the silver lining in an underweight bow and getting spouse buy-in on your new obsession! Genius :D
(and I don't know of anybody who's first bow didn't come in underweight)
Welcome to PA!

Welcome and very nice job on your first bow. That handle section looked like it was a bugger. Good to see that Simpson is a "carrier" of the disease. Lol. Danny
