This was a very narrow and thin stave from a wonderful colored dark osage. What you see is a fresh worked osage, it looks like already years old.
The stave was clean free of knots, but heavily twisted and has a curve in the outer upper limb. Curios are the extreme thin early wood parts of the rings, never had that before that extreme. Best ratio of early wood/late wood ever for me.
It was a nightmare to bring that thing in balance. I think I needed more than 10 heating sessions to get it done. It is 64 long with sharp fades, so the bending area is long and allows a very comfortable draw out to 30(requested by the new owner).
Tips are water buffalo. String groove filed in the levers.
Handle area was too thin, a glued on piece of osage provided the wanted depth. First she got a dished handle (brown leather). But I changed it to a straight upholstered black leather grip. The guy in the f/d pic is my friend Karlheinz, the new owner. Sorry, the weather wasnt fine when we took the f/d.

Simon your bows are always inspiring, the details in the stitching really set the grip off, love the hooks! Hope your friend enjoys the bow

Very nice looking bow with a graceful bend, that color in the osage sure is nice as well. Also looks like it is perfectly made to fit your friends long draw. Nicely done Simon.

How do you get osage in Bayern? Do you have to pay through the nose for it? Beautiful bow. I am as always in awe of your work. --trying to get there myself.

Very nice bow, could you tell me the weight please? I think the osage is hungarian, isn΄t it? Karl Heinz should be happy.

Looks darn good. And recurves on a squirrelly piece of wood are always a headache.
-
Nice one simon!! :)

Outstanding! As usual. The bow is very nice in all aspects. I like your stiching on the handle.....may have to "borrow" it from you. ::)
-
Beautiful work on a beautiful piece of wood. Really nice.
-
Stellar work as usual! Really like the stiching and tips!
-
Stunning bow sir. Was there a problem with the design of the brown handle? I like the look of it why did you change it out? Cool pics of the shots btw

Sorry for the late response and thanks again guys!

It wasn't the curve that made me nervous, it was the very narrow stave. When the limbs got aligned- the levers were off and opposite. So I had a lot of heating sessions, but now the thing is very fine.

The first version was a try in a concave belly handle for a right hand, very unusual - but I like to do different things. The new owner is a leftie and wanted a black leather plus a straight handle plus a exotic stitching. He got it!
-
Man, your bows are always worth lookin' at. Especially those blurry furry faded out tips ;)
