Little accident ruined half a bow while we were moving to the house site but the staves from this tree had all treated me well so i didn't feel like giving up on this thing. I cut off as much as I could, keeping in mind that if I made it skinny I could use the unformed handle as part of the bow, and got to work reducing it to just a third of an inch thick down the whole thing. I induced reflex and deflex that put the tips in one inch of reflex and decided I'd do my best to make the 46"ntn I had pull to my 26" draw.
Well, she pulls about 40#@25" and didn't take excessive set getting to 26", but small chrisals showed up across the whole thing and so I plan to shoot an inch short. Nevada deems any bow capable of sending a 10gpp arrow 150yrds on level ground a hunting weight bow, and this thing made 180 with one of my heavier arrows, so when I'm confident with my groupings I'm thinking one of my visits is going to involve some crawling around in the bush ;) ;D

Nice job Marc. Love that landscape!
-
Wow, that's crazy! I think I would have just made a few arrows out of the half stave...very impressive work as always, and I agree on the landscape.
-
Cool bow and scenery. What's the handle wrap?
-
3mm leather cord, left an end sticking out on the belly side to help keep my hand in the right place ;)

Looks fine! What was the wood? Locust?
-
Sweet little bow you got there.
-
A fine looking shorty you got there.
-
Do I understand you to say the bow is a third of an inch wide?
-
Thick, but that was just to start.
-
Very nice bow and surroundings.
cant wait to finish a ash rigid handle bow to come back to locust and try a bending!!
-
Organic little bow. When I saw the nock that's what I thought. Very nice and simple. Well done! 8)

Thats an awesome little bow! Looks just right for crawling around in the sagebrush :D
-
Wow that's one heck of a gorgeous bow
-
That's a fine little bow........you did some nice work salvaging that piece of wood......no waste, no want!
-
Thanks everybody ;D
Just tested penetration with my first broadhead glued into the snapped end of a bamboo arrow, no idea what a pass through around ten pairs of jeans in a cardboard box means but it certainly seems adiquate!
-
Sweet little locust bow, hope you nail something with it. :)

Nice work mark. I have a BL bow with cryshals all olong one limb. This might have inspired me to put a finish on her. How long would you recon your bow will hold up?
-
It's past 200 and has managed to only take a standard two inches of set. I don't expect it to last as long as other/wider bows with as much set, but it could get close to a thousand I think- though I might retire her at five hundred for my sake ::)

Great shorty bow :)
Matt if your bow has chrsyals along one limb then the other is too strong before you finish it take some scraps off the strong limb.
