Title: hickory cord
Post by: swamp monkey on September 21, 2014, 05:50:10 pm
I had some hickory staves that needed the bark "skinned off"   As I did the work I had some thin strips of inner bark reveal themselves.  As I debarked the staves I collected enough to make over 12 feet of hickory inner bark cordage.  Anyone know how strong this stuff is?  is it bow string material? I won't use this string for a bow even if I could.  The next one might be if the stuff is good enough for it.

Hickory bast is really strong in strips.  I haven't seen it twisted into cordage yet.

Break test?

This cord is for education.  My next attempt will be for stress tests if I can't find any numbers already assessed.

That's cool!
I hope I can be lazy and learn here instead of google.
I'm getting my feet wet with Dogbane.
