Title: Introducing Rooster (Pic heavy) First Stave build. More photos added.
Post by: JoJoDapyro on September 13, 2014, 02:25:55 am
This is my first Osage build. The majority of materials have come from trades made here. Fred Arnold provided the stave, Mullet Provided the Skin, LoefflerChuck provided the Sinew. Thanks to all of you for making good trades to those of us just starting out.

Rooster gets his name for being a bit of a... Well, a Rooster. This was a challenging build being my first stave as well.

70 inches tip to tip, 68 inches knock to knock. 65# at 27 inches (or 80ish at 30). Rawhide and sinew string knocks. Rawhide handle wrap and arrow shelf, sealed with pine pitch, with a little black dirt for color. Timber Rattler skin on only the top limb, as the bottom is pretty much straight. 7 coats of oil for a finish.
14 strand B50 string, 7 green and 7 black. B50 serving. The sinew wrap on the skins is dyed green, the rawhide string knocks are dyed blue.  String silencers are Sheep Skin. Thanks for all the pointers on getting this one done.

Joe

Good looking bow and impressive it is being pulled that far. But, I think it would live a long life if it was bending a little bit more towards the handle area. It looks like to me only the outer part of the limbs are working.

Happy, Brian? :)
