Title: trouble removing snake scales
Post by: straightarrow on September 09, 2014, 08:02:11 am
Just applied some black snake skins and I'm having a heck of a time removing the scales. I've tried everything, finger nail, steel wool, tape...etc. They just won't slough off. They're on there but seem very thin. I wonder if the snake just got shedding? Anybody ever have this trouble. I've applied lots of skins but never had one quite like this... I've resorted to 220 sand paper and basically sanding each scale individually.

If I can't pick them off or rub them off with a rag, I just seal right over them, still wool from head to tail in between each coat and move on. :)

Thank you pappy. That thought crossed my mind. Figured if they wouldn't lift they certainly wouldn't lift under the finish.

I use a pencil eraser on those last few stubborn scales.

The skin I just put on my latest bow seems about the same. My trouble is that it seems like there are 2 sets of scales in some places, but not all places. Mine are rubbing off nicely though.

Never used a pencil eraser.... I'll have to give that a try. Thank you
