This 100 year old osage fell today. It was in a scene from The Flim Flam Man in 1967, George C. Scott, Harry Morgan among others. The scene was during the chase just after they ran into a moonshine still. Anyway, there are a few decent sections worth trying to make a bow or two. After seasoning, this will be Flimflambow...
This section is 15' from the bottom. I was surprised that there was no sap.

Very cool story. I don't wanna be a buzz kill but you will be dealing with some serious twist in those staves. Try it anyway cause the history is too cool.

Yeah, it's ugly, there's some that looks better but this needed to be moved out of the road. The butt section is a couple of feet across and the bark runs fairly straight there. Some of the upper limbs are much better. Most of it will be firewood.

Drool....wish we had any osage in AZ.

I remember that movie. :) It would be fitting that a bow from that tree be a bit crooked then... ;)
Good luck with your project.

There are several scenes in the movie made within a couple of miles form my home.. Kinda cool seeing what that looked like almost 50 years ago..

Cool haul. Looks like some good rings on the fat side of the tree. Twist is easy to remove in osage. There was a roller blade movie scene filmed on the hill I take to work every day. One character racked himself on a tree just off the road. I've had thoughts about cutting that tree but it looks like junk so I passed.

That's pretty cool! I've never seen that movie, but it's always neat to have a story behind a bow. 8)
