Title: "DRAGONFLY" boo/ipe recurve
Post by: dragonman on July 22, 2014, 01:31:03 pm
Hi everyone heres another bow to look at....this is my best to date....fastest and smoothest...
its 64" and just under 1 3/8" wide at the fade out, with maple shims in the recurves and an oak powerlam....

I made an almost identical  bow a few months ago, but this one  has wider limbs...but roughly same draw weight 59lbs @26-27"
It was an experiment to test effeciency of wider verses narrower limbs.....Its only 2 bows,  but it appears to prove ( to me anyway)  that wider limbs take less set and are therefore less strained...and more efficient.....this was a topic Badger was talking about earlier this year and I was interested to test out, i thought it was right but was looking for objective proof....???

it weighs 24oz an oz heavier than the narrow limb version....I could have made skinnier tips but I prefer a more robust bow and it has enough speed that I dont have to worry about skiny tips....its finnished with just tung oil and hemp string deco

the dragonfly decoration is on earlier bow but intend to paint on new bow today...hope you like the pics, criticism and praise welcome ;D

Great looking bow David....

How many lams is this bow made from? there seems to be a white shim toward the limbs tips. What is this for?

thanks very much for all the comments....much appreciated.

Badger,  yes the bow kept most of its profile,  lost less than 1/2"
RT. ...only a boo back and ipe belly... the shims  are there so I could achieve the bend to make the recurves....ipe will not bend with heat or steam
