we have 30 people who are yet to ship!!! thats crazy!!! we need to start getting some more production. Now I know everyone is making bows outside of this trade so let put down the personal projects and finish the ones we promised, 5 MONTHS AGO!! that wed make. now unless your going through a divorce, custody battle, moved and dont have a tillering tree, and or been extremely ill or injured, i dont think anyone really has a good excuse not to finish on time.

Now that I have self harvested staves I'm really stoked to turn one out with time to spare! Back up plans are in place,yes I am nuts!lol! ;D

I haven't received yet but I'm sure not gonna get sideways about it. I don't get involved in trades and worry with getting my end by a deadline. Just do your best guys and it will all be good 8)

It's sad, but those running the exchange have to keep on top of these things only because of a few that get themselves into a pinch. We are sorry to berate the majority in order to try reaching the minority, but that's kinda the way it has to be sometimes.
We also have had some pretty darn wonderful people step up in the shadows and whisper that they have a project on the bench they can send at the last minute if someone finds life just goes pear shaped on them. It happens, and we can't fault you for it. If this is the case for you, don't feel bad about letting myself or Bowman53 know. You've got friends in here that have your back.
Can't say that for someone that gets in trouble with time and then blows it all off. We are getting close to the deadline. Give yourself a gut-check and be realistic. Let's see whatcha got?

sadly, with only 40 some people in the trade, the 30 who havent shipped yet are the majority.

That's why I also try and stay away from trades, been burnt too many times.

I don't understand why anyone on here would ever do that??? For one, if someone is lurking on here for a while, they eventually have to catch on that making bows can be as fun/ maybe even funner than actually shooting them... and then the one's that you make are even funner to shoot because you made it! Really these people are ripping themselves off.

I've been involved in PA bow trades in one way or another since the first one and in every trade there have been deadbeats that have received and never sent a bow or never intended to send in the first place. All they want is for someone to give them one for free. Which are you!... or has life gotten in the way. If that is the case, have you notified Jordan to let him know about your circumstances. I believed Jordan ask folks in the beginning to keep him posted with their progress. We've had many months to get a bow built and sent to another PA member. I applaud Jordan for stepping up and reminding folks that time is running out. He has actually done you guys a favor by reminding you. Jordan has volunteered to run this trade with help from a few friends, to keep up with each participant and their bow trade status. He does this in his spare time...like any of us have spare time these days. He is a married man with children and a real job. If you were in his shoes you would understand so please try to put yourself in his shoes and help make this tedious job a bit easier for Jordan and friends. Since you are not in his shoes do what you promised when you signed up. Go read the rules for this trade and ask yourself if you are following the rules and if you are a man of your word. Please get the best bow you can build finished and shipped to your recipient. They disserve a new bow just like you.
At some point in the near future I will be sending out PMs to folks that are not keeping their word. Don't make me go there! >:(
We here at PA are a family and most of us will go out of our way to help those who need help. ...and to those that don't participate just because they may have been stiffed, I think you are entering for the wrong reason. I get in these bow trades to help newbies build up their confidence as wood bow builders because they might be building a bow for one of you more accomplished bowers. That is pretty intimidating for these new guys and most swallow that pill and produce their best bow to date for their recipient. I have probably 50 selfbows, backed bows or wood lam-bows(most from other folks) and don't really need a bow, and if I don't receive one in the trade I'm OK with that. That's not why I signed up...and when I signed up for the trade I promised to build the best bow I can for my recipient. No questions asked!!!

Lets get on the stick and see this bow trade to completion with all parties involved satisfied that they have sent out the best bow they can build for their recipient.

As long as I am part of the PA Bow Trade these things will never happen. Both suggestions go against the spirit of the trade. The PA Bow Trade has always been and as far as I am concerned will always be open to anyone that wants to enter with some qualifications. If you don't like this, don't get in. I promise you won't be misses! ;)

i almost cried Pat lol, thank you. last year, i had to make a bow for KEENAN!!! that was intimidating, but it also made me step up and make the best bow i could and it helped me take the next step as a bowyer.
and i will put this out there because i know everyone is thinking it lol. i have not shipped my bow yet either so ill let you in on why. A. im getting divorced. B. i moved out and left my work bench and tillering tree behind because i couldnt bring it with me(i just got a T stick from bubby today, thanks old man). C. if im not doing OT on the weekends im visiting my son and or daughter.
now the reason im telling everyone this is so you dont think im some hypocrite getting pushy with people but not doing as he says himslef.

I sent my trade bow off early for PA but I still am working on my TG trade bow, due July 11. I have built two complete bows for the TG trade but I didn't think that either were worthy. I gave them to friends. I'm getting close on a 66" osage with flipped tips, within 6# to 8#. It will go out on time. I have posted my results from each bow and keep Kelly posted on my progress with this one. Communication is the key to a successful bow trade.

There is no excuse for not following through on your trade. Sorry, if you had time to get your wife pregnant, you still had nine months to build a bow you promised. I've done this trade 3 times and I'm done for awhile since I got a "hand out" bow 2 out of 3 times. I was really disgusted last year to see an old member that had just bragged about making 100's of bows get one and disappear only to be one of the worshipped ones on the Paleoplanet site and even come back on this site briefly till I called him out. Anybody that wants to know who they are PM me. We had five Ripoff Artist last year, there is no reason for that given the time allowed and unless you are dead be a man and let someone know why.
To me, there is nothing worse then a thief. And you can sugar coat it, but that is what you are doing when you take the cheap way out because your Man parts shrunk up and you can't be honest.
If you can't/ or don't have the experience, sit it out until you do. Just think it through before you commit if you care about your reputation. Because, if I can get a phone number, I will call you to find out why you didn't follow through.

This has been a good post to read. Thanks for all who are participating. I am just finishing up some arrows. I'm seeing off the short ash recurve. I have been shooting it a lot lately and I'm going to miss this one. It has taken a little more set, but it shoots pretty sweet. There are things about it that are my fave to date. It was the first one I induced recurves on. I am happy with it. I hope my victim likes it too. It is strange to give one to another bowyer. It is kinda a test for me. To know if my bows are decent bows.

;D I guess ill chime in here. Ill start by thanking the powers that be for running this trade its a lot of work. Most of you know i like pat have been in every trade since they started on here and enjoyed every one. As far as i know no one has been sad about getting one of my bows. that being said the bow im making for ( >:D ) is shot in and has 5 coats of finish just 2 more to go handle wrap and shiped. hopefully this week. Just like everyone else life tends to get in the way. Flooded bow shop, Horse had cancer surgery and so on. Every year theres a couple peeps that dont finish the trade. On that note i will throw in my name for make up bows. I didnt get lucky to get what i wanted out of the first 3 bows i made so he gets #4 lol. I will continue to be in the trades as long as they are available. Its not about the bow i get its about the bow i send. I dont sell bows i trade them or give them away to peeps to try and get more peeps into the sport. I have found that i live in an area where there arnt any traditional bowyers. So thanks to all the peeps that have contributed to me knowledge base and helped me along the trail to get here. I worry every time i send out a bow that the person getting the bow wont like it hasent happened yet but still worry. So i build the best bow that i can. To those of you that have one of my bows i only hope they bring as much pleasure to you shooting and hunting with them as i had making them. Thanks again to the folks that dedicate there time to run these trades and i hope theres many more to come in the future. Ill be in them to

I'm not involved in this bow trade, but hope to be in a future one, after I've honed my skills a bit, and am confident I would deliver something I would be proud of.
Obviously making the trade invite only would cause lots of people to miss out on opportunity, could something else be done that might keep it open to everyone but make it a little more easy to manage.
Perhaps on the next bow trade, everyone signs up and gets their trading partner ahead of time but a time to build deadline is set, and no bow is shipped until then. By that deadline everyone could confirm that they had a bow complete if someone didn't their trading partner could find a new trading partner. Then when everyone has confirmed they have the bows ready they could be sent with like a two week deadline to send.
Obviously there's a lot of history around this and I've not been a part of it, so this is only a suggestion and I will not be at all offended if it's not taken up.

Those thoughts and many others have been tossed around many times Steve. A guy is either worth his salt, or he isn't. I think this swap is what makes PA an even tighter "family" than any other site. You learn fast who is worth a s**t and who isn't. We tend to cling to those with integrity and morals, and that makes us tighter around here.

ive had a similar idea. you cant send your bow till the other guy is ready to send his and you wont get their address till they are done too. motivation to get a bow finished, you wont get one if you dont finish one.

That would work. The operant word is "work". It would be a bit of juggling to keep all the data straight and accurate.

We have had since early February to get our trade bows finished, that is 5 months! Anyone can build a wood bow in 5 months. Heck you can cut a tree, split out a stave, debark it, reduce the stave to floor tiller stage, air dry for 3 months and finish building the bow in 5 months...but most want to wait until the last minute and rush through the process. I have also been guilty of this.
You now have 45 days to complete the bow for your recipient. That is 6 weeks, 6 weekends, summertime and a holiday or two during that time. That should be plenty of time to complete, shoot in and ship your recipients bow.
Who has not even started their trade bow yet? Don't answer, just get off your a$$ and get 'er done!

There is very little work to a bow trade...if people make their bows in a timely fashion.

If I participated in every trade we ever had on this site and never got something in return I would still participate. I enjoy giving. I sure as heck am not gonna let a stick of wood turn me into a bitter old man. Now I'll get off my soapbox.

You really have to experience it to you to know what it feels like. Its not the lack of receiving that gets to you, its the fact somebody could actually do it to another person that eats you up.

4dog, it's actually a good thing. If a trade participant doesn't receive a bow in the trade usually another member will step up and build and send a "hand out bow" so everyone that has sent out a bow in the bow trade will also receive one. That's the kind of folks we have here in our PA family.

Pat, I've noticed that in the past and all of the make up bows I've seen have been fantastic. Almost make a guy wish he wouldn't get one >:D
