Title: Hickory-Osage glue up questions

I'm ready to glue up a hickory lamination on Osage. What surface preparation is necessary and will Titebond II work?

Both surfaces need to be exceptionally flat and even. Then use a sanding block with 80 grit sandpaper to roughen the surfaces. Use long strokes with the sanding block. Brush/wipe off all the dust and then wait for the dust to settle in your workspace. No need to degrease the wood. Yes, Titebond (1, 2 or 3) is fine. Spread a uniform layer of glue onto both surfaces. Put them together within 5 minutes. Use bike inner tubes to wrap the laminations tightly.

  Jim, I assume you are using a belt sander on your lams, I have always used 50 and 60 grit belts and gotten good glue lines. 80 grit would be fine as well.

I just ran my stock through my planer and scraped the surfaces. I will  roughen them with 80 grit.
