Title: Still tinkering.
Post by: cowboy on May 12, 2014, 04:23:18 pm
Here's a few small Clovis types from some pappyite. And a bunch of not so successful ones from pappyite and other stuff.

Cool points. Is pappyite rock from the creek?

Nice points Paul! That's a tough ratio you got going on there though. I hope some of the newer knappers get to see this. Might make um feel a bit better about working real hard to make gravel.  ;) dp

Like someone said, even your "not so successful" ones look pretty darn good and the first ones were super nice. Good work for sure.

Good variety of points, complete and broken. The broken still have potential. I am sure you already have plans for them.

Thanks for the replies fellers! Yep I could and may revive some of those failures but think will just look at em for awhile. That pappyite comes in so many different colors and hardness I guess you could say that it's hard to figure what type of nipple ya need and besides I'm still trying to figure this out :).
Yup Bob them pesky reverse flutes. Finally realized I was making the tips too thin and weak before fluting but that ain't the half of it. Lol.

Steven: yes, pappyite is from pappys creek and what we jokingly call it but I'm not sure what it's real name is.

I busted up some Pappyite earlier and it had what looks like rusty copper flakes all through it.  Pretty rough piece, though.  Really interesting pictures!

It's fun to tinker :). Hey Parnell if you have any more of that, I've heard it said that heat doesn't affect it much but I beg to differ. All of them improve some, some improve a lot, while others stay tough as nails. Cool variety of colors in there though. And besides how many can say they have genuine pappyite ;).
