This was a test to see if the ash I had was any good. It is. It was a nice break (pun intended) from locust ::). This is my first short bow at these weights and draw lengths. The paint is acrylic color matched to some yellow ochre I have. Originally I was going to use the ochre, but it didn't work the way I wanted it to over the whole bow. In the future I will use it on accents rather than a color change. I heat treated the belly and used dry heat for the tips. I used half eyes how to on bringing the tips back. Thanks for that Rich.
49" ntn
1.5" at fades then tapering to 3/4" tips in the last 8"
1 3/8" at handle
45# @ 25"
This is a possible trade bow. Not sure yet :) one thing I do know is this thing is quite snappy.
Let me know what you think. Thanks for looking :)
Matt

That's a beaut! I really like the accents and colors on that one, and that bend is pretty nice, good work with the recurves
-
Man that is just way too nice
-
What a bend on that one! That is a fine bow. I like everything about that one. Great work.
-
That's a lovely bow Matt!
Everything I've read says that Ash needs to be long in order to prevent set and explosions how'd you manage to make such a short beaut out of it? :)
-
thats a little cracker well done.
-
WORKING recurve, it certainly is. Nice bow and must have been a fine piece of ash...
-
Very nice bow you got there
-
Sweet looking bow. I know I would be happy to get that in the mail.

Nice shorty matt!!! But I prefer long legs on a tight ash

-
Nicely done! I bet if I tried that, I'd have a handfull of chrysals.
Del
(I have some spare chrysals I can bring along to the classic to maybe trade for some of those fancy Osage holes ;) )
-
Very nice, beautiful curves on that one for sure. Looks to be a sweet bush bow.

Thanks Blaflair
Thanks Peacebow.
Thanks John
Thanks Howard
Thanks Sieddy it took some set but just made it more cozy to shoot. I was just testing the wood and tillering and pulling. I stopped when it started to stack.
Thanks Danny
Thanks Dwardo it was easier than I thought using Richs build along.
Thanks Ozzy
Thanks rps we will see if I send it. I told myself that I would keep building till it got closer to the deadline and send the nicest one.
Thanks Chris the next on I do will be more of a model than a hobbit ;)
Thanks Bob you sugar maple was gorgeous
Thanks Rich your bows make me want to get in the shop. They are a simple beauty that is second to none
Thanks Greg this was my first try at paint and distressing. It is very addicting I can see why you do a lot of it.
Thanks Jawge
Del chrysals are my nemesis. This gladly has none. The locust I have been working on has given me fits but I am working on a couple more at the moment with fingers crossed.
Thanks Grady. I'm going to have to take it into the brush for some bunnies to see >:D
Thanks again everyone, it means a lot.

Thanks Jon can't wait to see what you put in the mail for the trade.
-
that came out sweet Matt, very nice

Nice looking bow there IdahoMatt. Don't think I've ever seen Ash that curvy around our parts. What kind of Ash is it?
-
Not to sure. The tree was given to me by the director of the irrigation district out here. It was stating to encroach on the canal somehow. He told me he had a strait hard tree for me. He already cut it down and it was cut into two 8 foot lengths. So I split them out and sealed the ends. That was about a year and a half ago now.
-
:o that's some bend....I'm go'n to have to try one of those bendy handle shorty's some day.
DBar
-
That is a sweet looking bow!
-
Thanks DBar
Thanks badger
-
Incredible bend on that ash .....
Very well made little bow. Love the 'used look' from the sanded painting.
-
Thanks Simon. Your bows are some of my faves.
-
Nice profile. Looks like your getting every thing out of this baby! Did it take any set?
-
Yes Don it did. After shooting first unstrung it is 1" under the handle and 1/2" on the tips. I'm sure how to measure it on these bows but I put the bow belly to the wall and measure under the handle. Then put the back against the wall and measured the distance the tips were off the wall. After resting about an hour it goes back to about even (tips to handle). Thanks for the nice words Dan :)
-
Hey now!!!
Howd i miss thisn.
Pretty snazy!!
-
Good job on the bow we will have to get together
And see how well you can shoot it.

We will indeed Johnny. Glad you finally got on PA. Welcome.
